Offseason acquisition Benny Sapp has brought energy and competitiveness to the Vikings defensive backfield.

    CB battling for nickle role

    MANKATO —
Benny Sapp may jump the route, making a nice interception, or he may bite on the fake, thinking he’s got the pick, only to see the receiver get behind him....

Sapp, McCauley, Gordon.... some serious competition here for that nickelback job. One article claims Gordon is the front runner, then one says Sapp, and yet another says McCauley... I guess whomever plays well through preseason and stays injury free will be that third guy. Tackling ability and desire will land who's left for special teams and the dime package.

I said from the beginning that this guy was a great pickup. Seems like he is turning out to be better than I had imagined.

IN all fairness, I have to give props to marstc09 on this one.
He was one of the very few who was excited about Sapp signing.
The rest of us, including/especially me, though that he was an inconsequential signing or practice squad material.

We have a very deep CB corps right now, but I actually see him moving up the ranks steadily.
Not starting material by any means, but I could see him making the 53 man roster pretty at this point.

I think I gave you props in the other Sapp thread if you were the one trying to convince me he was gonna be the man.
    ;D
