Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
Bennett has been learning to push the pile more IMO.. If he was the every down back he would be even better.. He also has the speed to break away for the big play which we need! I knew we would miss the big play.. Hopefully Bennett and Koro can bring that next year

Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
If these reports are true, one can only hope Smith finally sheds his demons and stays clean. I would hate to see him cut by the Vikes only to be picked up by another team and then go onto a great career. I think it would be a good call to keep Bennett and Smith. Throw Fason in as the third down and goal line specialist and I think we would have a pretty good backfield.

I agree, he has had 3 substance violations and got suspended for a year when we could have used him. Get rid of him. I like Bennet a whole lot better and he isn't a bad runner.noo! i dont want smith to get another chance with us! i hate the guy for some reason
But if he can stay clean, straight, and out of trouble, then I would be more than happy to see him in purple. But as we have seen, off the field trouble hurts the team worse.[size=11pt]"The only thing better than food & football is maybe Brett Favre."

Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
No!!No!! and No!!!. Both Bennett and Smith had the chance to bb our RB and they blew it. Bennett is a track star not a football player. He only had one good year with us than he be came a injury prone. Smith is a crack head. He is just like Ricky Williams. He had his chance and did something with it but he made a stupid desicsion and should be gone. Release both of them please and please Moe Williams. We need a bruser not a track start or crack head. We need that every down RB.
Bring on LenDale White or Laurence Maroney!!!!!

Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
So then, If bennett fits, O. Smith is getting another chance and MeMo wasn't in danger .... that means NO STUD RB that most of us wanted in the first round.
So, what else do the VIkings need that would garner a 1st round draft choice .... I dont see anything on the "O" side really myself, so back to the "D" side of the ball ....
LB or SS ?????
Those look like what we will be taking at #17 ..... Options anyone??

Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
I know it's not sexy, and it's not going to knock anyones socks off, but I would really really like to get some quality linemen EVEN if it means spending a 1st round pick on someone who has more potential then a "lets hope this later round guy pans out"
For me it all depends on free agency. We may be able to fill our needs through that channel.

Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
As the old saying goes, defense wins championships. So I dont think it is a bad idea to use the 17th pick on the d side of the ball. I am sure Studwell will identify the right player for the Vikings. After all, he does have a pretty good track record.

Re: Bennett stays and Smith gets another chance?!?!
YOu know, I haven't been a big Bennett fan lately, but he did look like he was running very hard this year. So what if's:
Bennett-speedy third down back, learns to hang onto the ball
O Smith-solid everydown back and a power runner
Mewelde-I have liked him from day one. Good back up but has trouble staying healthy
Fason-who said he is a good short yardage back? I didn't see him do squat! Let him go
Moe-if we can keep him cheap, solid veteran and good short yardage despite his size
So keep O Smith, if he straightened out, keep Bennett for excellent speed, keep Moore for good change up and back up. can Fason and MOE can stay or GO?
If a Lendale white is available at #17, you have to take him. He could be the best back in the league similar to a Cadillac. Even turn out better all around than Reggie.
Otherwise, if Lendale isn't available, we already have enough 210 lbs backs, we turn our eyes to defense or an O lineman if a great one is available.
