Think we should try to get him?
Huge need and we have the cap flexibility.
Would also allow us to go after a DB in the first round.
    Thoughts?

    Top-Notch DE in Vikings’ Sites?

    http://min.scout.com/a.z?s=63&p=2&c=732552&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2 f%2fmin.scout.com%2f2%2f732552.html

Scout link, so i dont know how to access the article, but the only top notch defensive end is Justin Smith and i guess that would make sense for both parties..

Justin Smith will seek money, Vikings have money, Justin Smith is a defensive end, Vikings need a defensive end.

I think, for the money we'd pay for him... probably not. I wouldn't be upset if we got him though.

I really want Robison to be our starter next year. You can say all you want about "He can't stop the run..." Hey, the kid was a ROOKIE last season and played pretty damn good when given the chance.

He is a high motor high effort high nasty Hutchinson type player and I would love to see him in purple.

Him, Allan Faneca and Justin Smiley are the best 3 players available in the FA market (without mentioning he who shall remain nameless to keep the thread on track)

We've had no problems stopping the run using Robison, Edwards, and James at DE over the past 2 years, and all of those guys are deemed pass rushing ends, not run stopping ends.
The Williams Wall in the middle will more than make up for Robison's inexperience stopping the run.

So his total and solo tackles have gone up or remianed steady, but his sack numbers seem to steadily drop. Is this really what we want?

Put me in the "Not Sold on Justin Smith" column. Still, I wouldn't necessarily be upset if we signed him either.

Not sure why everyone is so skeptical about Robisons abililty to play every down (or at least be a starter in the rotation) at RDE.

RDE - typically the Pass Rushing DE in a 4-3 is about 355-370ish.
They can play everydown and can stop the run as well as get after the QB.
    Think smaller faster.
Just in case, they will put the strongest LB behind the RDE to assist/shore up against the run.

LDE - Typically more of a Run stopper but can get after the QB if he has not contain responisibilities.
Usually in the 280-290 lb range. Think Bigger/Slower.
Typically they will put the faster OLB behind this guy to assist with blitzing/pressuring the QB.

A quick glance at body size/shape will tell all of you were the players play and if they should be a every down DE or not.

    91 Ray Edwards DE 23 6-5 268 2 Purdue
    73 Otis Grigsby DE 27 6-3 260 2 Kentucky
    92 Jayme Mitchell DE 23 6-6 285 2 Mississippi
    96 Brian Robison DE 24 6-3 267 R Texas
    95 Kenechi Udeze DE 24 6-3 281 4 USC

Robison (hasn't been on the team 2 years by the way) should be able to be an every down kindof RDE.

When you start looking at Edge Rushing DE's that are in the 6-1/6-2 250lb range then you would be concerned about his ability to stop the run.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg
