    Another DL visiting

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2732

Our day of Packers diversion is over. Back to Vikings news, and here’s a nugget: Free agent DT Ellis Wyms, who played last season in Seattle after six years in Tampa Bay, is tentatively scheduled to visit the Vikings later this week, probably Friday. Wyms also has a visit scheduled with Tennessee.

hm havn't really heard of the guy before, but glad to hear that they're looking for another DT because of the loss of Spencer Johnson, plus we need to be looking for an eventual replacement for Phat Pat

Pretty big drop off in production last year. Wonder if he was injured? He played in quite a few games. What is it about this guy that makes the Vikings want to look closer?
    2 questions.

    1. Can we get him cheap?
    2. Can he return to his earlier form?
What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. Its the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

Just to update the curious, DL Ellis Wyms did in fact arrive in the Twin Cities to visit Winter Park and was still there as of early this evening....

    There's a household name.

At Height: 6-3 and 290lbs he could play LDE.

I would rather have them draft a young guy at DT than bring a old vet in like this.
Hope they sign him and still draft a young guy.
If the young guy doesn't make the team you got the old grizzled vet as insurance.

I don't care who they get I just wanna see QB's get pressured into throwing picks, OR just flat out getting knocked on their @$$.

    I hear ya my friend.

I still contend they are targeting one of these two but won't go after them until after the draft and they see who else gets cut.

I agree with your sentiments at the end. And his size was the first thing to jump out at me. Seems like the kind of guy who could be great in run support, but I didn't see anything in his stats that indicated he would do anything for our pass rush. That, and if he's not a backup, those are some pretty sad numbers. According to this there were seven games (including two playoff games) last year where he played without a single tackle, solo or otherwise.

He is basically Darrion Scott, without character issues. Will spell DT on passing situations and LE when when need be, if we sign him.

He's not even 29 yet, he's a year older than Kevin Williams and a lot younger than Pat.
