    2006 Free Agents...

Free Agents I think that we should take a look at....

If Brad Johnson wants to leave, solid backups would include:
    Kurt Warner-Unrestricted
    Jeff Garcia-Unrestricted
    John Kitna-Unrestricted
    Josh McCown-Unrestricted
    Jamie Martin-UFA
    Seneca Wallace-RFA
    Anthony Wright-UFA
    Chris Weinke-UFA
    Drew Brees-UFA
The backup QB pool is good so it would be wise to make a move if Johnson is gonna wanna leave eventually...

    Worthwhile Feature Backs...Good Running Backs

    Ahman Green-UFA
    DeShaun Foster-UFA
    Edgerrin James-UFA
    Jamal Lewis-UFA
    Shaun Alexander-UFA

Other than that, the rest of the RBs are backup quality

    Quality WRs...

    Koren Robinson-UFA
    Nate Burleson-RFA
    Brandon Lloyd-RFA
    Reggie Wayne-UFA
    Keenan McCardell-UFA
    Antwaan Randle-El-UFA
    Rod Gardner-UFA
    Dez White-UFA
    Ike Hilliard-UFA
    Joe Jurivicious-UFA

WRs to take a chance on?

    Peter Warrick-UFA
    Peerless Price-UFA
    David Boston-UFA
    Arnaz Battle-RFA
    Az Hakim-UFA

Even though we need no TEs...here's the top TEs:

    Dan Campbell-UFA
    Christian Fauria-UFA
    Cam Cleeland-UFA
    Chad Lewis-UFA

    Quality O-Lineman....

    For u to judge......
    http://www.theredzone.org/2006/freeagents/showposition.asp?Position=OG
    http://www.theredzone.org/2006/freeagents/showposition.asp?Position=OT

    Quality Kickers:

    Paul Edinger-UFA
    Adam Vinitieri-UFA
    Mike Vanderjagt-UFA
    Ryan Longwell-UFA
    Josh Brown-RFA
    Todd Peterson-UFA
    Matt Bryant-UFA
    Joe Nedney-UFA
    Aaron Elling-RFA

Would be nice to pick up Vinitieri or Vanderjagt or Longwell or someone more consistent than Edinger...the talent pool at K this year is DEEP!

Quality DE (probably don't need one):

    Aaron Kampman-UFA
    Kyle Vanden Bosch-UFA
    Kimo von Oelhoffen-UFA
    Marcellus Wiley-UFA
    Orpheus Roye-UFA
    Anthony Weaver-UFA
    John Abraham-UFA
    Lance Johnstone-UFA

Definetely don't need a DT, but here's the good ones:

    Chris Hovan-hahahaha-UFA
    Grady Jackson-UFA
    Not very deep....which doesn't matter for us...hahahaha!

    LINEBACKERS....what we need....
    Here's the good ones:

    JULIAN PETERSON-UFA
    Keith Newman-UFA
    Sam Cowart-UFA
    Scott Fujita-UFA
    Will Witherspoon-UFA
    Cato June-RFA
    Ben Leber-UFA
    Hannibal Navies-UFA

Good Safteies (We need a SS):

    Adam Archuleta-UFA
    Corey Chavous-UFA
    Lance Shulters-UFA
    Keion Carpenter-UFA
    Idrees Bashir-UFA
    Marlon McCree-UFA
    Tank Williams-UFA
    Willie Offord-UFA

Good CBs....(in case we wanna get rid of Smoot or get a Nickelback)

    B-Will-UFA
    Nate Clements-UFA
    Jerry Azumah-RFA
    Ricky Manning-RFA
    Terry Cousin-UFA
    Will Allen-UFA
    Charles Woodson-UFA
    Deion Sanders-UFA (retired)
    Dale Carter-UFA
    DeShea Townsend-UFA
    DeWayne Washington-UFA
    R.W. McQuarters-UFA
    Ralph Brown-UFA

    DEEP talent pool there....

    MY TWO CENTS:

In a perfect world the Vikes would:

1.Sign either Edge, Shaun Alexander, or DeShaun Foster and draft a good RB in the second round...

2.Re-sign K-Rob and get Brandon Lloyd to be our #1 and 2 recievers...however Burleson would be a good sign, as would Reggie Wayne

3.Sign Vinitieri, Longwell, Vanderjagt, Brown, or Bryant instead of Edinger, all are more consistent

4.Sign Julian Peterson, Keith Newman, and Sam Cowart to be our starting LB corps...we could, however do without either Newman or Cowart, but not both since we do have E.J., I'd love to see Peterson in a Vikings uni!

    5. Re-sign Chavous, or sign Archuleta, Shulters, or Offord.

6.Sign Nate Clements, Azumah, or Ricky Manning and get rid of Smoot! B-Will would be a good sign also, but why B-Will if you could get one of these guys!?

    7.Sign a solid back-up QB
WHO I WOULD SIGN (if I had unlimited $$$):

    SHAUN ALEXANDER
    KURT WARNER
    JULIAN PETERSON
    KEITH NEWMAN
    NATE CLEMENTS
    ADAM VINITIERI
    COREY CHAVOUS
    KOREN ROBINSON
    BRANDON LLOYD
    WILLIE OFFORD (Nickel Back)

Thats who I'd get, and I know that we wouldn't do that, that is waaaay too many free agents but I think that Alexander, Clements, Peterson, Lloyd, K-Rob, and a good kicker could take us to the Super Bowl....

    Re: 2006 Free Agents...

i would like to see Bjohnson here as backup next year but if not i would be happy with Kurt Warner. he's been around the league so he has experience to help daunte out

for RB i would take Jamal if the price is not too high. He's fairly young still (27ish) and we can finally get a smash-mouth type runner here instead of this finess running we've had over the past few years.

I think we're pretty good on WR's, just re-sign KRob and i'm happy

as for kickers i'm not sure
I would like to see someon with a good leg on them, someting that Edinger has, but someone who is very consistent like vandergjat. mabye we could get a mix of the two for different situations. (longwell is hardly quality because if you actually watched him, he missed many fg's and even an XP)

D line should be good and good for years

for LB i would love to see Julian Peterson. Then we could mix up Peterson, EJ, Cowart, and Newman for a pretty decent LB group

I would love to sign Archuleta for a couple of years, but isn't he gettin kinda old too? mabye we can talk nicely to Baltimore or PIttsburgh for their SS.

and lastly for CB, i say re-sign Williams, he has really shown up to play over the last season, outplaying smoot. we could ditch Brown cuz he's no good anyway and have D. Edwards as our Dime back

If Brad does go I would seriously love to have Kitna.

I think he should be starting anyway.

    First, nice post.

Off this list I would think the only reasonably priced person that has potential would be Jamal Lewis. He had a horrible time in 2005 and he may have a few more good years in him.

Ahman Green is in the denouement of his career and would be a reasonble pickup for a running back by committee approach....which we are already in reasonable shape for so forget Green.

Foster may also be more affordable and he has a few years left in him. I would rather take a top-tier rookie than him though.

Edge has been my favorite RB for a long time so I'm biased for him, but think the tender would be too high.

Alexander would be very pricey and he is a little too much of a 'look at me' guy for my tastes.

So, in summary, I would go for a deal for Jamal Lewis and try to get him on the relatively cheap side to tide us over for a year or two.

    Yes, very nice post indeed.

When I looked at this list, I didn't notice just how good of players were going to be agents this year, but I noticed how many of OUR players will be to. I think we should worry about getting or key players back so we know what we are working with, then sign some nice players in the spots that need aid, and lord knows there are alot of good players to be signed.. and spots to fill.

Same here. I always thought they were stupid for starting palmer in his second year but I guess it turned out OK for them. I've always liked Kitna. Starter material.

    Re: 2006 Free Agents...

I like Jamal, but there are questions about his durability....would be nice though...lets not be cheap, the Edge....Super Bowl teams are rarely cheap when it comes to getting quality players....if we can sign Alexander (highly unlikely) we should do it....I love Brandon Lloyd and K-Rob together, Lloyd has been a #1 reciever with no QBs in San Fran and he could be the man with Daunte! Get er' done Zygi! Julian Peterson would be sweet...Nate Clements would rock, byebye Smoot!

We aren't gonna get Shaun.. They will lock him up..

Edge might go but we would have to compete with alot of people to get him.. And hopefully he would want to come to minny

Lloyd and K-rob would be good.. I think they will get Lloyd back though too.. He's all they got

Peterson we should seriously look at.. He is bomb

Won't get Nate.. I wish though
