Maybe a Free Safety depending on what occurs with Smith?

This guy has us taking a WR.

    Steuber's 2008 NFL Mock Draft

With some juniors entering the NFL Draft picture, Scout.com NFL Draft Analyst Chris Steuber has updated his 2008 NFL Mock Draft. Find out where he thinks this year's top collegiate talent will land during the first round.
    17
    WR
DeSean Jackson, California, Jr., 6-0, 172

The Vikings have shown a lot of improvement over the last month thanks to their rushing attack that finished No. 1 in the NFL, averaging 165 YPG. But it's the 28th ranked passing attack that has to improve. Tarvaris Jackson has played better, but still has a way to go. The Vikings may trade or sign a veteran QB, but they have to supply their offense with playmakers. Cal's DeSean Jackson offers a big play threat, as well as a dynamic return man on special teams.

    17. Minnesota (8-8)
The Pick: Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami*
The Buzz:The Vikings are looking to continue to build a playoff caliber defense - especially in the secondary.

Rivals has minny picking the FS out of Miami.
Usually any safety out of miami is a winner.

Excellent returner and speed, just a really small guy.
    Playmaker though, for sure.
If he's still around, I would be all for that pick to satisfy that deep ball threat.

My initial thoughts were that he reminded way to much of Ted Ginn and I've never been a Ted Ginn fan, yeah he can be a good returner, but doesn't seem like he adds a whole lot to an offense. But after doing some research the experts are saying that Jackson is a better route runner, and actually more of a receiving target than Ginn, so I guess i'm developing mixed feelings on this pick. I think the vikes could do better.....but hey I'm no expert.

Marr, have you done any research on Aquib Talib from Kansas? Is he a tweener (CB/S) type as well? I was very impressed with his bowl performance, and we could reunite him with his Jayhawk brother Chuck Gordon!

My order goes like this assuming i could pick from anyone.

    1. Jake Long
    2. Matt Ryan
    3. Kenny Phillips
    4. Desean Jackson
    5. Malcolm Kelly
    6. Limas Sweed

Whose ever left of these 6 by the 17th pick, we take the highest on that list. (Please god let Desean slide to us)

If memory serves (my spread sheet/mock is at work) I have him going to the packers.
I like the scouting reports on the kid and got to see him play the other night.

Edit - here is what I posted in the Mock draft thread.
I had us taking Smith cause he is higher rated on the value boards right now.
