I think this was a very good post Aae.
All of these are very good points and are obvious facts. I think that whether or not you love or hate Tarvaris, Visanthe or Tyrell ... the coaching staff and front office clearly think they are part of the future of this franchise.
I also like this draft because the front office clearly did not just draft for THIS year, but drafted for years down the road. They drafted for young depth that could one day move into the starting rotation if others (T-Jack) don't pan our or if some of the older players (Sharper and/or Birk) retire or move on to play elsewhere.
    Excellent post!

My only objection involves the Pukers.
As much as I'd like to think they have issues at and maybe even a "QB controversy," I don't think thats the case.
Rodgers has been there for 3 years, he isn't a rookie by any means.
He completed over 70% of his passes in his only on field appearance last year against a pretty good defense in a pretty rough setting, at Dallas.
They've kept only 2 QBs on the roster for several years due to Favre's toughness.
When they lost him, it was like they lost 2 QBs worth of depth, which have now been replaced by draft picks.

Then why did they draft 2 quarterbacks?
one being a highly rated QB in Brohm?
I'm sure its not for depth, they want someone else there.

[shadow=red, left]Good post. I didn't notice the fear the Allen trade spread throughout our division until I read that. I was really not on top of the draft at all this weekend.[/shadow]

Why did we draft a QB?
The Packers didn't go out and get Brohm to replace a QB
    that hasn't played yet.
If the Vikings would have gone out and got Brohm he wouldn't be starting this year for us.
    There isn't a QB controversy in GB.....yet.
The Packers let Rogers sit for years without worrying about using a first round pick on him, I highly doubt their going to magically turn on him because some hopeful Viking fans think there is a QB problem in GB.
Now if Rogers bombs all year and next year........then yes they probably have a QB battle.

I also don't think they drafted a QB to replace or push Aaron Rogers.. He's a first round talent and played arguably better than Favre with limited duty.. With regards to the Dallas game..

I think them drafting Brohm, is more of an indictment against Craig Nall than on Aaron Rogers.. I agree Rogers, has an injury history and they are hedging their bet in case of injury to develop a serviceable back up in case of injury.. Additionally, they took Brohm with their 2nd pick of the draft when they were contemplating getting him at #30.. so, he was clearly the top rated prospect on their board...

You also must consider the fact that arguably their strongest position is at receiver and who did they draft with their first pick??? Jordy Nelson... who probably won't get much clock at all!!.. behind Driver, James Jones and Greg Jennings..

So, if you look at it in that way.... You can't really say they don't have faith in Aaron... I think they drafted true to their draft board bc, they arguably needed a corner more than anything with the lack of depth behind Harris and Woodson!!!!

But with that said, very nice post!!.. thoughtful and thorough!!

Favre retiring, left them with 1 QB on their roster.
Now that old faithful isn't there anymore, they needed two backups now.
Rodgers has 3 years with the same guys in the same system advantage on Brohm.
Fat chance he gets beat out by a rookie.
Better chance, that he gets hurt at some point and they need depth there.

Re: 10 Things The Draft Revealed

The original post says give Tarvaris another full year to "prove himself", but then in the next sentence says, "John David Booty " is not the long-term answer to this franchise.

    Huh ?

So your logic is: a I-AA QB gets 2+ years to prove himself, but I am supposed to immediately write off a QB who started at USC, one of the best schools in the country (where Leinart and Caron Palmer went), without giving him his snaps in the NFL ???

    WTF ?

(BTW, I heard the Falcons GM today on ESPN radio, saying he will let all his 4 QBs compete for the starting job. Would it be o.k. with you if we did that too ? I completely am baffled by anyone who says Tarvaris has this job locked down without proving it in camp. I also don't get that entire philosophy. Let them compete for the starting position. Can you really honestly say that if Booty comes in and reads the defense better and has better decision-making and better throws, and better mechanics than Tarvaris, we would sit him in favor of Tarvaris ?).

I personally wouldn't mind us using all three QBs. For instance, I could see scenarios in the regular season (example: we are up by 17 vs. the Lions, and we put Booty in for a while. Or, the defense is spreading itself out in max protect, and we put Tarvaris in to run for the first, etc. Why not do that ? Why does it have to be one guy ? Why not "platoon" them ? I mean, I don't see the downside to that.).

Re: 10 Things The Draft Revealed

By the way, how many safeties does this team need ?

It seems like we have about 18 of them now.
