VIKINGS-49ERS CONNECTIONS
• Vikings Off ensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave played QB for the 49ers from
1991-94 and served as the backup to Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Steve
Young. Musgrave was a member of the 49ers that won Super Bowl XXIX.
• Vikings Special Assistant to the Head Coach/Linebackers Coach Mike Singletary
received his fi rst head coaching experience with the 49ers after
fi lling in on an interim basis for the fi nal 9 games of the 2008 season. After
dropping the fi rst 2 games, Singletary led the team to a 5-2 record and was
named the 49ers Head Coach for the 2009 season.
• Vikings Wide Receivers Coach George Stewart spent 1996-2002 in the
same role with the 49ers. Stewart went to 3 NFC Championship games with
San Francisco.
• 49ers WR Randy Moss spent 1998-2004 and part of the 2010 season with
the Vikings. Moss is 2nd in Vikings history in receptions and touchdowns
trailing Cris Carter in each category. A 5-time Pro Bowler with the Vikings,
Moss holds the top 3 single-season receiving marks in Vikings history and
hauled in 92 career TDs en route to 5 Pro Bowl berths.
• The past 3 Vikings players to earn Associated Press Off ensive Rookie of the
Year honors will be in action on Sunday- Randy Moss (‘98), Adrian Peterson
(‘07) and Percy Harvin (‘09).
• Vikings QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson spent training camp and preseason
with the 49ers prior the 2011 season but was released before the regular
season. Bethel-Thompson also attended Balboa High in San Francisco.
• Vikings Personnel Consultant Paul Wiggin started his coaching career in
1968 tutoring the 49ers defensive line.
• Vikings rookie FB Rhett Ellison’s father, Riki Ellison, played LB for the 49ers
from 1983-89, helping San Francisco to 3 Super Bowl titles.

LOCAL CONNECTIONS
• 49ers GM Trent Baalke attended Bemidji State in Minnesota where he
played LB, receiving All-Northern Sun Conference honors.
• 49ers Regional Scout Scott Brown coached 4 season at the University of
Minnesota where he led the defensive line from 1992-94 and the linebackers
in 1995.
• After attending junior college, 49ers CB Tramaine Brock spent his junior
season at the University of Minnesota before transferring.

NFL CONNECTIONS
• Mike Singletary and Jim Harbaugh were teammates with the Chicago
Bears from 1987-92.
• Bill Musgrave and 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell coached together
in Atlanta in 2006 when Musgrave was the Falcons off ensive coordinator
and Donatell was the team’s defensive coordinator.
• Vikings Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer also coached with Ed Donatell
in Denver from 2009-10 when Priefer was the special teams coordinator
and Donatell coached the secondary.
• Mike Priefer and 49ers off ensive line coach Mike Solari coached together
in Kansas City during the 2006-2007 season. Priefer was the Chiefs special
teams coordinator while Solari was the team’s off ensive coordinator.
• Vikings C Joe Berger was teammates with 49ers WR Ted Ginn Jr. in 2009
when the two were with the Miami Dolphins. Vikings running backs coach
James Saxon also held the same position with the Dolphins in 2009.
• Vikings LB Marvin Mitchell was teammates in New Orleans with 49ers C
Jonathan Goodwin from 2008-10, winning Super Bowl XLIV together.

COLLEGE CONNECTIONS
• Vikings RB Toby Gerhart played under current 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh
at the Stanford University from 2008-09.
• 49ers Linebackers Coach Jim Leavitt held the head coaching position at
the University of South Florida while Vikings S Mistral Raymond and LB
Tyrone McKenzie played for the Bulls. Leavitt coached Raymond from
2008-09 and McKenzie from 2007-08.
• Vikings LB Erin Henderson and 49ers TE Vernon Davis played 2 years together
(2004-05) at the University of Maryland.
• 49ers LB Patrick Willis and Vikings S Jamarca Sanford were teammates for
3 seasons at Ole Miss.
