Last Game v Lions
The Vikings and Lions last met on December 7, 2008, at Ford Field in Detroit, with the Vikings coming from behind to defeat the Lions 20-16. After trailing the entire game, the Vikings, led by backup QB Tarvaris Jackson, scored twice in the 4th quarter to grab the victory.
After a slow start, the Vikings found their rhythm, scoring on 3 of their 4 possessions in the second half, including 2 drives of 10 plays or more and a 90-yard touchdown drive. After starting QB Gus Frerotte left the game in the final minutes of the opening half with a lower back injury, Jackson entered the fray and led the Vikings on both of their touchdown drives and another that resulted in a field goal. Frerotte ended his day 7-of-10 for 70 yards while Jackson completed 8-of-10 attempts for 105 yards and a touchdown – good for a 143.8 QB rating.
Jackson’s touchdown pass came on an 11-yard strike to TE Visanthe Shiancoe, who led all receivers on the day with 5 catches for 65 yards. The Vikings other touchdown came when RB Chester Taylor scampered for 17-yards into the end zone.
On the ground, RB Adrian Peterson led the team with 102 yards on 23 carries (4.4 average). Taylor had 23 yards on 6 carries (4.5 aver- age) and also caught 2 passes for 26 yards.
The Vikings defense limited the Lions to only 16 points on the day and only one touchdown. The Vikings were stout in the red zone where they only surrendered 6 points off of 3 Lions trips inside their 20-yard line. Vikings defenders also stopped Detroit on both of their 4th down attempts on the afternoon.
Lions QB Daunte Culpepper was sacked 4 times, twice by DE Jared Allen. DE Ray Edwards and DT Ellis Wyms recorded the other sacks. DT Kevin Williams led the team with 9 tackles (5 solo, 2 for a loss). LB Chad Greenway and S Darren Sharper followed with 8 and 7 tackles respectively.
K Ryan Longwell converted both of his field goal attempts, includ- ing one from 50 yards out. KR Darius Reynaud for the second week in a row took a kickoff back for 40+ yards when broke up the middle for 43.
