    " PP.O's Who are they really? " 20 Questions with Prophet ...

    PP.O name: Prophet
    Real name: Prophet
    Age: centuries
    Current City: Parts Unknown, Mississippi
    Hometown: Rural Minnesota
    Occupation:
    Consultant/Writer/Instructor

    1) How did you choose your screen name?

Have been a fan of Tolkien for years and was going to go with Gandalf, but decided to go with Prophet instead because it would more effectively annoy some of the more uptight members.

    2) Prophet, could you tell us a little about where you grew up and about your family?

Spent my younger years in Minnesota with a relatively small family, I'm the oldest and have two sisters.
Parents alternate between Arizona and Minny these days.
Have a huge extended family since my dad is the youngest of 17 children.
I'm married and have three children ranging in age from 7-13 and am homeschooling the children (grades 1, 5, & 8 ).

    3) What type of student where you in High School? Did you play in any sports or where you involved with any school clubs and such?

I was a trouble maker pretty much, liked to joke around a lot.
Always found school to be too easy, so had a lot of time to cause trouble...in a fun sort of way.
Played football, hockey, basketball and tennis in high school and was also involved in intramural sports.
Involved in a lot of other activities as time permitted.

    4) What did you do after High School?

I played sports or worked. Oh, you must mean after I graduated.
I went to the university for a while and then dropped out and was a ski bum for a spell.
Went back to the university after a while and ended up working in many different positions across this great country.
Worked overseas with Peace Corps and other int'l organizations for a decade and did the graduate school thing and received more degrees.
Continue to work overseas these days on short-term assignments, may be going back overseas for the long haul soon.

    5)What was your first job?

I've worked many jobs and had to think for a while.
I guess my first job would have been working on the family farm.
My first job after that was delivering papers...Mpls Tribune, before it merged with the Star.

    6) When did you decide to be such a dedicated fan of the Minnesota Vikings?

My Dad has been a season ticket holder since 1961.
I went to the majority of home games for a couple decades as a young lad.
I graduated from HS in 1981 and haven't lived in Minnesota since around that time.
So, I was weened into following the Vikings as a young smart ass.
Watched them lose four SBs and have had many highs and lows as a fan over the years.
Can't imagine not being a fan of the team.

    7) Could you tell us one of your favorite memories that has to do with the Vikings or one of its past or present players, coaches, etc.

Lot of them, tough to boil it down to one.
I enjoyed the last game at the Met, bitter-sweet since I spent a good chunk of my life going to all those games.
I enjoyed spending time with Carl Eller, Alan Page, Stu Voight, Wally Hilgenburg, and a few others that I just spaced at a local BB event where I won the prize for selling the most tickets to the event.

8}How did you come to find PP.O and what attracted you most to the site?

I have posted on various NFL-related sites over the years and never found a Vikings site that I wanted to call home until I ran across pp.o five years ago.
I enjoyed the mixture of younger and older fans on the site and noticed that people didn't get away with posting complete bullshit.
I wasn't an active poster in the beginning, but I remember a turning point was when I read Del Rio's posts and saw his insight and intolerance for idiocy on the site and knew that I had found a home.
Ultra does a great job of keeping order on the site too.

    9) What other sports teams do you follow?

Big Twins fan, have followed them for as long as I've followed the Vikings.
Been to many World Series games.
Was a big North Stars fan and Fighting Saints fan until the Stars moved and I banned the NHL.
Enjoy watching college football, not really a fanatice though, just watch it for the love of the game.
Get into the World Cup and enjoy coaching munchkins in football and baseball.

    10) When you’re not on PPO what could you likely be found doing with your spare time?

    You just never know.
I'm either off on some tripped out excursion looking for some writing ideas or fly fishing or writing or doing some random crap.
I have a policy that I have to do something that I have never done every day.

    11) Do you say a special prayer before Vikings games?

    No.
I pray, just not about sports.

12)Where do you watch away Vikings games?

These days I watch almost all the games at home.
I enjoy watching the intricacies of the game and don't want to be around people that are not into watching the game.
I typically make it to at least one Vikings game every year and usually a handful of Saints games.
I'm a season ticket holder for the Saints, live about 4 hrs from the superdome.

    13)What is your worst fear?

    Don't have one.

    14) What type of hobbies do you enjoy?

Writing and fly fishing are at the top.
    Have many more.

    15) What’s your favorite food?

    I absolutely love to cook.
Have recipes that I've accumulated from my travels and can't say I have a favorite.
The unifying theme for my favorite dishes is the integration of spices.

    16) Where are some of the places you’ve been, and where are some of your favorites.

I've been fortunate and have traveled extensively.
I'm at the point in my life now that travel doesn't thrill me anymore unless I am going there to work and be involved in the culture and with the people.
I enjoy everywhere I have lived, there are pros and cons everywhere.
There are nice people and asshats everywhere.
People are what make or break a place.
I've lived in places so remote that many wouldn't even believe the stories.
I just can't come up with one place that is my favorite though, I typically prefer places that are out of the ordinary.

    17) What is one thing you've always wanted to do, but haven't done yet in your lifetime?

Sail around the world with no time limit.
I will do it, just haven't got around to it yet.

18)If you could live anywhere where would it be?

Where I am right now, I believe you are where you are for a reason.
I have moved a lot, lived and worked in many different countries and states so I have no problem packing up and going somewhere if an opportunity presents itself.

    19) Do you believe the Vikings will have their big day someday? When they do win the Super Bowl, what will be the first thing you think you will do?

Yes, they will get there and it seems to me that they are on their way to making it now.
I have seen them get close many times and the team they are assembling now reminds me of some of Grant's teams.
The first thing I'll do when they win the SB is probably just sit there in shock and have one of those 'movie moments' where the decades of following the team will be replayed to some corny music in my mind.

    20) Up to this date, what is one of your favorite PPO memories?

Have laughed a lot on this site.
I get a kick out of the people that make idiotic statements like, 'the ballboy said...' and they're totally serious.
I also enjoyed the early early morning conversations in the yell with Del Rio, cogitans, dig, and others that stopped by.
I've also enjoyed the various moronic threads in the offseason.
One of my favorite team-related times was the whole 'poison pill' episode during the Hutch acquisition.
There are many good members on the site that bring a lot of good information to the boards, a lot of idiots too, the mixture of both make it an entertaining place to be.

Great read, Gandalf, er Prophet. I love Tolkien too...Lucas ripped him off with that Star Wars thing.

I enjoyed spending time with Carl Eller, Alan Page, Stu Voight, Wally Hilgenburg, and a few others that I just spaced at a local BB event where I won the prize for selling the most tickets to the event.
Must have been cool...they were some of my heroes.

The first thing I'll do when they win the SB is probably just sit there in shock
Yeah, me too...after living through 4 SB losses, it's gonna be great to say we're the champs. ;D

    Interesting goal/policy.
    Spontaneous, planned or both?

    17) What is one thing you've always wanted to do, but haven't done yet in your lifetime?

Sail around the world with no time limit.
I will do it, just haven't got around to it yet.
    Me to, kindof/sortof.
I want to do it on a 50'r with twin diesels.
Not as much work and I don't think I could get Wildwoman to trim the sails.
    ;D
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

    A little cryptic, yeah?

Great read, mate. I love your penchant for adventure, trying new things, carpe diem &c. You really should provide us with at least one travel story that we "wouldn't even believe." FWIW, I'll believe a lot of crazy shit.

Definitely look forward to meeting you one of these days in the (hopefully not so distant) future.
