    " PP.O's Who are they really? " 20 Questions with NodakPaul ...

    PP.O name: NodakPaul
    Real name: Paul Bourdeaux
    Age: 30's
    Current City: Fargo, ND
Hometown: I grew up in Coon Rapids, MN, but I consider Fargo my hometown now.
    Occupation: Software Engineer

    1) How did you choose your screen name?
I started using it when I was living in Southern Illinois actually.
Prior to that I had lived in Grand Forks, ND for five years, and I fell in love with the state.
North Dakota was where my wife's family was, where my parents were living at the time, and it was where I wanted to return to raise my kids.
    So I became NodakPaul...

    2) NodakPaul, could you tell us a little about where you grew up and about your family?
I spent my first 12 years living outside Alexandria, MN, before my family moved to the Twin Cities.
My dad was a former Green Beret, worked in Law Enforcement and the Department of Corrections his whole career. My Ma was a travel executive, and my parents moved to Minot, ND in the mid 90's to follow her career.
Both have since retired and are working part time jobs to pass the time...

    3) What type of student where you in High School? Did you play in any sports or where you involved with any school clubs and such?
In 9th grade I was still earning straight A's. But then someone introduced me to beer and partying, and my 10th-12th grades were a little wild.
Unfortunately my grades suffered as a result, which cost me a spot in the Air Force ROTC (See next question).
I was on the downhill ski team in high school (although never made varsity) and I used to run cross country.

    4) What did you do after High School?
I had always intended on going Air Force ROTC, but despite a 98 on my ASVAB and a 28 on my ACT, my 2.1 GPA kept me out (Stupid "Just Say No" commercials - who knew they'd be true? )
But I still wanted to serve my country, so I enlisted instead, and became a Law Enforcement Specialist.
My first duty station was Eielson AFB, Alaska, but since this was at the very end of Desert Storm/Desert Shield, I of course did tours in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
I actually loved going abroad even though overseas we worked more in the security/anti-terrorism role instead of law enforcement.
I also spent time in Italy, Japan, and Korea (a lot), and a bunch of other places that aren't coming to mind.
It was a great job for a single guy, and I managed to get myself promoted quickly.
In 1999, however, I married a wonderful woman, and we both agreed that we couldn't raise a family if I was gone 8 months out of every year.
So I proudly separated from the Air Force after seven years active duty.
I went back to college, and now that my partying days were over, I was able to do well in school again.
I graduated with two bachelors degrees (Computer Science and Psychology), and I have a great job as a Software Engineer now.

After September 11, I tried to re-enlist, but my wife and family talked me out of it.
Part of me still wished I did, but they were right - I have a family to take care of now.

    5)What was your first job?

My first real job was the Air Force.
But in high school I worked at several fast food restaurants.

    6) When did you decide to be such a dedicated fan of the Minnesota Vikings?

When I was a kid, my Dad used to bring home Vikings cards that they gave police officers to hand out (I think they still do).
That was how I was introduced to the Vikings.
I had the opportunity to go to some games as a kid too, which solidified them as "my" team.
I started following them closely when I was in high school in the Twin Cities, and had to follow them remotely while I was in the Air Force or living out of state.
When we moved back to North Dakota, my wife got me season tickets as a reward for getting a great new job.

    7) Could you tell us one of your favorite memories that has to do with the Vikings or one of its past or present players, coaches, etc.
Moss's rookie debut at the dome.
It was a couple of weeks before we shipped out to Kuwait again, and it was a GREAT send off!
A close second would be just this past year the the Lions game.
Afterwards we went to Matty B's for a little bit and Matt Birk himself came over and talked with us at the table.
Took his picture with my buddy and I.
    Very classy guy.

8)How did you come to find PP.O and what attracted you most to the site?
I was craving people to talk purple with during the 05 season (my first as a ticket holder).
Being a software engineer, I am always online, and a google search brought me to PP.O.
I lurked most of the 05 season, but started actually contributing toward the end of the season.
What attracted me the most was the activity - even in the off season there is something going on here!

    9) What other sports teams do you follow?
NDSU football, UND hockey and NASCAR (Kasey Kahne).
I enjoy catching the Twins every now and then, but there are too many games in baseball for me to be able to follow it closely.
I am sure I will go see a game or two when the new stadium opens up.

    10) When you’re not on PPO what could you likely be found doing with your spare time?
    Doing something with my kids
I have a five year old daughter and a four year old son, and both like to be involved in activities.
So it seems like any given night we are shuttling them to gymnastics, ice skating or dance.
I love spending time with my kids.

    11) Do you say a special prayer before Vikings games?
    Nope.
I figure the big guy has more important things to do than watch over a football game.

12)Where do you watch away Vikings games?
    From my family room.
My wife has already agreed that we are going to put a Vikings room in our next house.

    13)What is your worst fear?
    Losing one of my children.

    14) What type of hobbies do you enjoy?

Cooking, football, playing with my kids.

    15) What’s your favorite food?

    BBQ Dungeness Crab

    16) Where are some of the places you’ve been, and where are some of your favorites.
I have been all over the world, but my favorite is probably either Alaska or Italy.

    17) What is one thing you've always wanted to do, but haven't done yet in your lifetime?
See the Vikings win a super bowl!

18)If you could live anywhere where would it be?
    Fargo, ND.
    Seriously I love it here!
I had my choice of pretty much anywhere in the US, and this is where my wife and I wanted to be.

    19) Do you believe the Vikings will have their big day someday? When they do win the Super Bowl, what will be the first thing you think you will do?
    Absolutely!
And when they do I plan on being there, so the first thing I will do is cheer my head off during the trophy ceremony, and then head to the car to pop the champaign!

    20) Up to this date, what is one of your favorite PPO memories?
Getting together for tailgating before the games.
I like talking online, but it helps when you can put a face to the name...

Nice to know a little more about you - and keep those Jell-O shots coming. They're the tastiest part of the tailgating!

Way to smart for my blood.
Your only redeeming factors are that you know alot about football and can make a mean jello shooter.
    ;D

    Seriously though, thanks for sharing.
Until the next game my friend.
