World Cup 2006
In anticipation of the the tournament of tournaments from June 9th - July 9th who will emerge as the World Cup Champion?
Having spent over 10 years in holland and half of my family is Dutch, i look forward to the world cup, its a phenomenon around the world, especially for nations participating in it. iv noticed theres some soccer talk going on all ready, but figured the "AAAAGGHH!!! THIS IS EXCRUCIATING!!" is not the right topic for the world cup, it might turn out to be excruciating, but untill then, This Is The World Cup!

USA, USA, USA!
....
Okay - setting aside the emotional nationalism, I don't see how I could pick anyone but Brazil. They have to be the favorite.

I wish the world cup had more hype in the States. By the time the current 7 yr olds are in their 20's the USA will be catching up with the rest of the world in the hype over the World Cup.

though i must say, the MLS league is moving along nicely, and giving the US a chance to compete, maybe not with the best of the world, but compete nonetheless.

Good pick there even if I dont think they will. They will be ousted by a sleeper. The Samba boys are too over confident and Roberto Carlos and Cafu are a shaddow of their former selves. Watch and see"petrodemos" wrote:

No way. They play very good soccer, are technically sound but lack character. I am still to see a Portuguese team that will deliver under pressure. The 2004 squad almost did it and is one of the best I have ever seen (again showing the ever present lack of character). I give them a solid run in the WC but I will stick my head and say they will exit at the semis at best.Portugal!

They better. They to me seem the best to win the trophy. Thats if they can make it out of their group. They usually start slow and gather momentum. If they can find their game early and sort out the line up problems they usually exibit in the WC stage they could just go all the way.Argentina all the way
