Wisconsin Man allegedly takes 70 lbs of quarters
FOND DU LAC, Wis. - A former employee of a car wash has been accused of taking more than 70 pounds of quarters from cash machines at the business.
Scott Schmitz, 40, of Fond du Lac faces charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and bail jumping in the case
He is accused of breaking into Buggy Bath Car Wash during overnight hours Nov. 2 and stealing 5,619 quarters worth about $1,400 and $1,000 in bills from cash machines at the business, according to a Fond du Lac Police Department report.
The owner, Eric Morse, told police that whoever burglarized the car wash did it at the perfect time since the cash machines had just been stocked, according to the report.
A $500 cash bond was set during Schmitz's initial court appearance Friday, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled on Dec. 21 before Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Peter Grimm.
