Heidi Dalibor, 20, told the News Graphic in Cedarburg she ignored the library's calls and letters as well as a notice to appear in court.

Re: Wis. woman arrested, booked over library fines
Good thing Illinois doesn't go that far.
Took books back to the library for the wife one time and figured I would go ahead and pay the late fees.
I walked out with about $60 less in my pocket.SKOL VIKINGS

worst that ever happened to me was getting stuck with $247 in fees and whatnot by Blockbuster.
Haven't returned anything even a day late since."If it's not fun, you're not doing it right. "

We had actually rented a movie one night, and that night we got recalled and sent on a no-notice deployment to Saudi Arabia (turns out Khobar Towers had just been bombed).
My idiot roommate returned the movie for me, but put the wrong movie in the case by mistake.
He put one of my personal movies in there instead.
Four months later I got back to the states, and didn't even know until about six months later when I went to pull the movie out.
I called the video store and told them what happened.
They told me that I owed them $125 because they had to replace the movie.
I asked to speak to a manager, but they said that that was their policy regardless of the circumstances, and weren't budging.
I went and talked to a lawyer who made a couple of phone calls on my behalf and threatened to get the video store put on the "black list" for the base, meaning that military personnel would be under general order not to go there.
Considering that the video store was just outside the gate and pretty much survived on the military, this would have killed them.
The video store changed their tune pretty quick, and even returned my movie to me.

$125 to replace the movie! you should have told them you would go to walmart and pick it up for $15... My god that is insane.

I didnt know that you could go to jail for that. I guess its the same as stealing.
With blockbuster, all you have to do is never go back, or move, and then you are in the clear. there are more than enough other renting stores if you get stuck with a huge fee... or just return stuff on timeWe're bringing purple back.

I understand why they did it, but I think in some cases they could make an intelligent exception... Emergency military deployments would be a good example...Zeus wrote:

I have actually been to Grafton. It is a very small town and they have nothing better to do. It's pathetic.
