What's in the bag and what's your handicap?

Hey all big time golfer here. Was just wondering if y'all play golf, what is your handicap, and what is in your bag?

    Handicap: 5
How many times a week: 1-2 times (9-holes each)
In the bag: Hibore XL Driver, Lynx Irons (the ones Freddy Couples used to win the masters), An old ping putter (can't seem to put with anything else, this thing makes the *Ping* sound and everything). Minnesota Vikings Bag.

HIt the course once a week.
    My score can vary,
but usually in the mid to low 90's.
I've got a Callaway, Great Big Bertha II Driver, a broken 3 wood, Big Bertha titanium 5 wood, Ben Hogan Hybrid 4, Ben Hogan Irons and an old titleist putter.

I have a full set of Paragon Hybrids. R600's I think.
I retired a old set of Strikers that I have used for about 10 years and I had a cheap ass start set (Northwesterns) before that.

I am lucky to get in the 90's with my low of 89 once.

Mostly I am a bit buzzed by the 5th hole and to damn drunk by the 18th hole to worry about my score/handicap.

Long story short, don't take the game to seriously, however, my kid is a different story.
Hits his 5 iron farther than I do my driver.
He shoots in the low 80's and will probably get into the 70's pretty consistently this year.
Add to that the fact that he has only been golfing for about 3 or 4 years and gets to golf for free all the time cause he is on his High School Golf team for cripes sake.

I hate that kid sometimes...... ;D

Re: What's in the bag and what's your handicap?

I had a handicap of 36 (only because that is as high as it goes).
I had a real nasty slice when driving and the course I played on had five holes with out of bounds markers.
I also had a mental block with water hazards.
If it was visible that is where my ball went, and since hole 5 had a water hazard between the tee and the hole you can imagine where I spent most of my day.

One day I had a beautiful drive straight as an arrow to the green.
I could almost taste the eagle in my thoughts....until one of the guys in our foursome explained to me that we were on the first tee and my ball was on the sixth green.
Pissed me off so bad I quit that day and haven't been back.

Right now, a bunch of dust.
Haven't been out for about 2 years at a company golf outing.
That's about the most I get out any more.
Didn't start till my junior year of high school when i joined a buddy on the golf team.
Small school, no cuts or else i would not have been there.
Did actually golf in one meet though.
I got dq because I lost all my balls in the water hazard and had to get one from the coach.
    oh well it was fun.

I think my clubs are the Jack's (now Shopko, if any body know that store) special.
    $100 I think.
but I have probably gotten that out of them.
Have a putter that I won at the golf outing that might out value that.

I golfed two rounds in a weekend a few weeks ago in the mountains. last year i only when once so its pretty much been two years since i have golfed. it was ugly. before i was shooting in the mid 80s. one thing i did learn is that i golf better after beer. after nine holes we got beer both times, and both times i had a better score on the back nine

A nasty slice, if it is consistent is nothing more than a result of a weak grip and that doesn't mean how hard you are squeezing the club.

If you golf righthanded, as most people do, just take your left hand and rotate it towards your right hand a bit (strenghting your grip) until you figure straighten your slice out.

I recommend you go to a driving range and pay close attention to how you grip the club, exact position of your fingers.
Hit a few with your fingers in those same spots. If you are slicing, then start working on it by strenghting your grip a little at a time.

Eventually you will find it is going away.
From then on, always put your hands back on your grips in the exact same spot (all grips have some sort of unique marking to make this simple to do).

Another thing that will help is to slow and shorten your back swing.
Taking it back slow ensures that you get your club head in the proper position before you bring it back forward and shortening your swing helps get the club head back into position when it hits the bal.

I typically go with a 3/4 backswing if I am slicing bad.

I highly recommend that anyone who wants to golf and have fun should read this book by the way.

Mr. Penick was and still is one of the most respected golf instructors to ever walk the hallowed fairways, bunkers and greens of a sport you can never win.
