What Really Sunk The Titanic

All this time, I thought the movie was factual. ;D

Book by metallurgists blames rivets for Titanic tragedy

NEW YORK - The tragic sinking of the Titanic nearly a century ago can be blamed on low grade rivets that the ship's builders used on some parts of the ill-fated liner, two experts on metals conclude in a new book.

Re: What Really Sunk The Titanic

Excellent read. Thanks.

I love to watch the shows they have on this very subject and for me it all comes down to the orders to the helm.

If they would have either just hit the damn thing head as they tried to slow instead of going all back full and trying to turn, or just maintained speed during the turn, there wouldn't have been as much damage.

Any sailor knows that you have to have water over the rudder to get a ship to turn.
By going all back full and decreasing speed they reduced thier ability to turn.

One bad decision by the Officer of the Deck caused a lot of lives to be lost, not the type of rivets or number used.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

I saw a special on one of the nerd channels where a metalurgist examined metal from the side of the ship and then claimed it was too brittle...
mixed/poured incorrectly or some such thing.
