Just thought I'd throw this out as a pre-draft question.

Who's the biggest no-name who had the biggest single moment inthe spotlight in NFL history? In other words, who is the biggest career backup that had a spectacular moment of heroism, just to return to mediocrity afterwards?

Don Beebe is another I thought of...poking the ball out of Leon Lett's hand at the goal line in the Super Bowl.

    Anyone else?
Without a doubt. That has to be the best. It was also Leon Lett who recovered a blocked field goal against the dolphins one thanksgiving game on the 1 yard line. But it had been sleeting all day, and when he dove on top of it, it popped out from under him. The Dolphins then kicked again, winning the game.

I feel really bad for Leon, he wasnt a bad player but, will always be in the spot light for bad things.

Not sure why but when I read this thread one guy popped into my brainpan:
    Vince Ferragamo
    You guys remember him?
Rams QB late 70's to early 80's, bounced around for a few more years on other teams. Was a Packer once too.

That Guy lit up the NFL in 1980.
He was to be like the next Namath.
I remember in high school all the chicks were drooling over him too.
And that was in FORT WORTH!! Total Cowboy land.

    Any way............

I wouldnt even call that 15 minutes.

That was just a HUGE draft bust.
I remember being at a friends house and his brother also had a friend there, who was a charger fan. So I was making fun of how bad the chargers are and he went nuts talking about Ryan Leaf and how he will save the team and be the best Qb in the league.

This was probably in the beginning of August.

So the NFL season rolls along, and Ryan Leaf.....(you know the rest)

I never saw that guy again actually.

HAS got to be without a doubt the Titans Kevin Dyson

The only thing he did in his carreer worth mentioning is coming up one yard short and reaching with all he had for the endzone.

Since it is considered by some as "the biggest comeback" in NFL history, I think Buffalo Bill backup QB Frank Reich deserves a nod for his win at home in the 1993 wildcard game against the Oilers.

Also, Don "magic man" Majkowski (the green bay packers mullet sportin' pre-favre QB of the late 80's/early 90's) deserves some recognition for his wonderful cover version of Poison's "Every Rose Has its Thorn". His version was a big hit on the radio in green bay when I was growing up there way back when...ahhh, the good ol' days. :headbang:

I remember Via Sikahema on the Eagles ran back a TD on a kickoff and started punching the goal posts back in the mid-90's. Never heard from him again.

Jeff Hosteler of the Giants winning the Superbowl after Phil Simms went down with an injury. Don't think he did much after that.

Also, Trent Dilfer after winning the Superbowl with the Ravens. I think he is still the back-up at Seattle.

That is all I can think of at the moment.
Via Sikahema ended up being a sports new caster for channel 6 here in philly.

Timmy Smith of the 'Skins. 202 rushing yards in Super Bowl XXII against Denver, I don't think he did much of anything after that.

Timmy Smith is a good one.

And wasn't that the same year that Doug Williams did so well?
He had a good Super Bowl too.
And then The Redskins just cut him or said don't come back.

    What was the deal there?
