VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE

On Tuesday, November 7th, general elections will be held in the United States of America.
If you are of voting age and registered, it is your responsibility to vote.

I do not care who you vote for - and please don't discuss it here.
This is not a political thread - it's a civics thread.

In 2004, 60.3% of the voting-eligible population turned out to vote in the Presidential election.
While not fabulous, it was up about 10% over 2000.

However, in 2002, the off year when the office of President was not in play, only 39.51% of the voting-eligible folks bothered to show up.
That's disgraceful.
2006 is an off-year.
Are you going to be part of those whose voices count or those whose voices aren't heard?

We Americans are lucky enough to live in a pretty nice place.
Things work here for the most part.
You do not fear for your life on a regular basis, nor do most go wanting for much that is necessary.

Show that you care about your country by voting.
This notice comes early enough so that you have time to use this wonderful thing called "The Internet" to research your local, statewide and Congressional races and make an informed choice.

Please pass the word along.
This is important.

Thanks,
=Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Good post Z.
Everybody who can vote should.
It is the one basic responsibility we have as citizens.

If you don't vote, then IMO you forfeit your right to bitch about the government until the next election.

Re: VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE

I have about half of my absentee ballot filled out.
It would be done, if the media powers that be would publish informaiton on the rest of the canidates.

But yes, make your voice heard as this is truely the one, failsafe way to make a change!!

I am proud to say I have voted in every election since I have become eligible.

However I think we need to either raise the voting age to 21, or lower the drinking age. I know every time I go to vote, I want a drink as soon as I see who my options are.

Thanks for the reminder.

Re: VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE

Happy to report (to toot my own horn
:) that I'm volunteering to register voters next week.
Perhaps there ought to be some kind of carrot/stick approach to voting. Just to throw out a possible example, perhaps people who don't vote shouldn't be eligible to receive social security or some similar program. Or maybe nonvoters should be conscripted into the military. Seems like people might take their civic duty a bit more seriously if there were tangible consequences. Just a thought.

Oh, and Josdin, I fully support lowering the drinking age. It drove me nuts when I was 19 and working in a lumber mill (where people regularly lost fingers) and after a hard day, I couldn't even crack open a cold one. Of course, I'm a distiller, so obviously my impartiality could definitely be questioned.
