I don't pay attention but ill vote cuz I can
I think there's way, way, way more wrong with an unknowledgeable voter than a non-voter.
an uninformed voter is political ad campaign gurus' pay check.
If you don't know what you're talking about it becomes about which person ran the better campaign, not which one is the "better" candidate.
also, 50% assumes that there are only two people on the ballot

Thanks, Jos!Well the last Voting reminder thread was locked because people couldn't refrain from mentioning specific candidates, which is against the rules. However, I feel it is important to have a reminder out there to exercise our civic duty, so I'll put Zeus' original post back here. Feel free to discus voting, just not who you're voting for.

I don't give a shit who you vote for - I have my favorites, but that is not what this is about.
Voter turnout in this country is fairly pathetic, which is rather sad as the right to vote is something that many many many men (and women) have fought and died to protect and preserve.
In 2004, only 55.3% of the voting-age population in the USA voted in the Presidential election.

If we then take out of the voting-age population and use only the voting ELIGIBLE population (no convicted felons, non-citizens, etc.) then the percentage rises to 60.1%, which is still (IMHO) sad.

So - I encourage you to VOTE next Tuesday!
And take the time during the next week to get familiar with the LOCAL issues (bonds, propositions, state representatives, etc.) that will be on the ballot so that when you DO go vote, you'll be informed.

For those that are interested, here is a comprehensive list of the 2008 ballot initiatives for EACH state:

Re: VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE - NEXT TUESDAY!
Just voted this morning.
I have to work Tues night so I would not make it to the polls until 7pm.
Way to crowded.
I did see a lot of dead people voting too.
And the Dallas Cowboys.

Glad to see this thread!
Let's keep it nonpartisan.
Get out and vote on Tuesday!
Do what I do... Have a post-vote party.
Anyone with an invite and an "I Voted" sticker may attend.-Sno
