    U Minnesota

Alright y'all I need your help on this one. I'm currently a senior in HS and I'm lookin at UMinnesota as a prospective college for a major of chemical engineering. I am pretty much debating between this and Georgia Tech, and I know a lot of you are in the area or have attended UMinnesota and have some insight on the Engineering program, the university, and the area as a whole. I've never visited the campus, and I only lived in MN the first couple of years of my life so I don't really know what the area is like. Any insight would be awesome...Thanks.

    LOL.
    Didn't get much help, huh?

I would definately schedule a campus visit, especially since you are close to it.
I didn't attend the U, so I cannot comment on the quality of the chem engineering program.
But I do remember something about them being ranked fairly high in the undergrad program.
Let me see if I can find it.

    EDIT:
    Here is it.
    http://www.cems.umn.edu/department/rankings.htm
The latest rankings (2005) are those of US News & World Report.

    Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Programs
    Rank School
    1 Massachusetts Inst. of Technology
    2 University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
    3 University of California–Berkeley

    Chemical Engineering Graduate Programs
    (first place tie)
    Rank School
1 University of Minnesota –Twin Cities
    1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The National Research Council provides very good assessments of graduate programs. Their last report was in 1995, and here are the results:

    Chemical Engineering Graduate Programs
    Rank School
1 University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
    2 Massachusetts Inst of Technology
    3 University of California-Berkeley
    4 University of Wisconsin-Madison
    5 U of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Looks to me like if you are serious about getting your degree in chem eng, then the U of M is one of the best places in the country to go.

I think my friend's husband got his engineering degree (not sure which type, I THINK chemical) from Tech.... I'll call her tonight and get some info for you.

Let me tell you though... it's hotter than hell down here, the people are going to be VERY different from what you're used to, and the college football scene is unbeatable...

    Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I'm from Arizona, 120 is the norm during the summer. I got heat down lol.

And yeah nordakpaul the academics are phenomenal and fairly surprising when a pub university is so highly ranked amongst the country's leaders...However it's the school in general and campus/surrounding area as a whole I'm wondering about. A campus visit is probably going to happen soon.

    thanks guys
