Twin Cities radio duo: Magic fakes having AIDS

    http://www.startribune.com/sports/wolves/30740994.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4OW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr

A Twin Cities talk-radio duo agreed on the air that pro basketball legend Magic Johnson has been faking having AIDS.

The brief exchange Wednesday on the politically conservative KTLK Radio (100.3 FM) between on-air personalities Chris Baker and Langdon Perry brought a denouncement from Johnson, who has been HIV-positive since 1991.

PERRY: What about diseases that are eminently treatable and you can live with for a long, long time quite healthily if you just get some basic drugs?

    BAKER: Like Magic Johnson.

PERRY: Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS.

BAKER: You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?

PERRY: I'm convinced that Magic faked AIDS.

    BAKER: Yeah, me too.

    PERRY: It falls apart --

    BAKER: Which is horrible.

PERRY: -- when you get into motivation. I'm not sure why, but I'm pretty sure he faked AIDS.

    BAKER: I've got a great e-mail here from --

PERRY: 'Cause he's the only cured AIDS guy ever.

    From USA Today newspaper...
Call it the Magic Paradox. Fifteen years ago, L.A. Laker legend Magic Johnson announced he had AIDS and would retire from basketball. Today, Johnson, 47, looks so healthy some may question whether AIDS is the menace it was made out to be.

That's one of the myths Johnson says he will have to dispel if he's going to succeed in perhaps his most ambitious venture of all, a $60 million partnership with the drug firm Abbott that aims to cut AIDS rates among African-Americans by 50% in the next five years...When Johnson arrived in Mellman's office, he got the shock of his life. "He begins to tell me, you know, I have HIV," Johnson says. "I never, ever thought that was what he was calling me back for."

Johnson had been tested as part of a routine examination for a life insurance policy.

He never announced he had AIDS. This article is flat out wrong. He announced that he had acquired HIV and this can be found on YouTube.
He is still HIV positive, but has never had AIDS.
Also ... people can live for as long as 50 years even with AIDS and much longer with HIV.
I personally know someone who has lived with HIV his whole life and has had AIDS since he was 4 ... he is 17 now.
These idiots clearly do not know what they are talking about.

    Wow.
People are clueless. HIV and AIDS have been around for a long time, you would think that they would know the difference by now...
