    Travel to Europe

just wondering if anyone on pp.o has tips/experience regarding travel to europe. my and my brother plan on touring around at the beginning of the summer, buying a one month eurail pass and bumming around 6-7 countries for the month. just wanted to see if ppl here had any experience w/ cheap air travel sites (does 700 each sound reasonable for a one way ticket to greece from NY?), tips for getting around, experience w/ traveling to europe, etc.

we want to do the tour de france, running of the bulls, etc. it'd prob be best if we sat down w/ a travel agent but neither of us has a ton of money so i just wanted to see what ppl out here thought and what some good places to start would be (or any other ideas.....)

    Thanks!

How do ya like them apples?!

You probably already know about this, but make sure you buy the lonely planet books from the places you plan on visiting.

Actually $700 is on par with what a one-way ticket does cost.

Thread-starter, you could also check getting several connecting flights too since it might be cheaper if there are more layovers in between the flights. Just what I've found with travel to places here in the US and Europe.

As for getting around mainland Europe I'm not sure what would work best. I've only been to Northern Europe(scandinavia et al) so it is quite different than all of the countries being landlocked and driveable.

    Just my .02...

Good luck and have fun! ;D

    Re: Travel to Europe

beginning time of summer is the most expensive time of year
usually trips can cost from 700-1000 round trip
september is a pretty good month 500-700 range, not too cold not too hot.
the extra 50 bucks for straight flight is worth it. trust me.

You need to keep looking until you hit the 1100 roundtrip or less mark. The cities that you fly into might make a difference too.
    Look around!

I did this tour about, well longer than I car to mention ago.
But I have been traveling since then to different countries.

    Youth Hostels
Sleeping on the train, taking the overnight trips to cut down on hotels.
    Sleeper cabins or regular seats.

Just some ideas to cut cost.

I recommend Rome and Paris, lots of the people I ran into liked the summertime Interlocken.

    Forgot to mention Amsterdam.
That would be a good place to start and finish. LOL

    Re: Travel to Europe

I think these buses are about the cheapest way to get around http://www.eurolines.com/, but also it's slower o/c and less comfortable.

Train can be cheap for some destinations.

There is possible for cheap airline tickets if you monitor the airlines, but it's sometimes a little more dificult if you need to plan ahead for specifick destinations.

I also recomend that you look for youth hostels for cheap sleeping quarters.

But get the Lonely Planet Guide(s) and improvise from there.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

    Same Dates to different cities.
Different Airlines service different hubs = better price.
