Re: Tom Brady Hires Non-Union Plumbers

Unions are fine so long as they're not mandatory, and NOT being a part of one doesn't affect your ability to do your job and make a living.

Personally I don't see the need, nor have I ever desired to be a part of a union.
Don't be delusional and think that as an individual you have more power to affect a union executives mind than a corporate executives mind.
Wasteful beaurocracy if you ask me, all they do is support poor quality work and an overinflated sense of importance.

Re: Tom Brady Hires Non-Union Plumbers

Don't get me wrong, I am not against Unions.
Infact they were instrumental in getting companies to create suitable work conditions, pay scales, health benefits etc etc up to par for that average worker.
My father was the Union rep for UPS in Grand Rapids and my Father-in-Law was the union leader for Blandin Paper Co in Grand Rapids.

Because of that environment, I grew up believing in and practicing the "Buy American, Keep Americans Working" mentality when I purchased items but it is getting so bad now that how can you ignore the differences in cost between American and foriegn products.

I understand how foreign companies use child labor and lower quality of standards to produce their product.
Additonally, I am sure the Chinese workers out there working in the sweat shops and child laborers wished they had some sort of union to help thier situation, but at some point we need to take a close look at our role in the world economy and establish some sort of checks and balances (Globaly) if we are to stay competitive in the new "World Economy".

But it just seems to me that every day I hear more and more about how we have a major deficit with import/exports and outsorcing of jobs.

    Why is that?
Is it because our government isn't doing enough with tariffs, taxes and levies on imports to drive the foreign goods cost up so that consumers won't have cheap products to choose. Or is it because American products are just so expensive and out of synch with the world economy.

Something has to be done if we are to stay competitive in the world economy as well as on our own shores.

    Unions suck.
    That's all I got.
    Agreed.

Everyone mentions working conditions and salaries.
The problem with unions is the protection.
Absolutely no initiative for the worker to do a good job.
    Doesn't matter.
They are guaranteed everything for simply putting time in.

If you disagree then go work at a union shop sometime and try to get something done.
Maybe after they get done reading the newspaper.

There was an article a year ago in U.S. News about how "Wal-Mart" is the new model for american business . . . and the auto industry was the old model.

Having lived in Detroit for several years, unions are useless and counterproductive in this day and age.

Re: Tom Brady Hires Non-Union Plumbers

Who gives a fuck if the plumbers he hired are union members or not, besides the plumbers who belong to the union?

He hired who he wanted to do the job & I would do the same. I go by reputation & price.

It's not like he brought in plumbers from another country to do the work. He gainfully employed plumbers from within the U.S. & put them to work. Plain & Simple. It's not like Americans lost there jobs over this.

People who do not belong to a union deserve to work just like anybody else.

Re: Tom Brady Hires Non-Union Plumbers

"We're not going to any Pats games until he builds union," said Francis Jensen of Local 12, who with about a half-dozen of his brethren threw up an informational picket line in front of No. 12's Back Bay condo yesterday.
So a hand full of plumbers are going to boycott going to Pats games?
    :-\

Yeah, that'll shut 'em up & force them to hire union plumbers.
    :

Sounds good to me. It gives non-union workers a chance to go sit in their seats & watch their beloved Pats play football.
