    Re: Tim Duncan said what?

If I could afford a nice suit I think I would wear one to games too!!(hehe)

This is not a society issue, no one is telling the public to wear suits, these are high paid atheletes that look like bums when they go to games, I will stand firm in my opinion on this one!!

Plus I am getting sick of the way kids are wearing baseball caps these days, they need bobby pins to hold the things on, it is ridiculous!!

Remember that no one is telling the general public to wear suits, only millionaire atheletes wearing sweat suits!!

    Cheers!

I think the dress code in the NBA is a blatant race issue, no matter what reasons they give because it blatantly targets black players. Having self respect has nothing to do with wearing a shirt and tie. While I dont mind doing away with do-rags and stuff like that. Telling them they cannot wear jewelry is a joke, and telling them they have to have their shirt tucked in blah blah blah, is a joke too. This is not a private school. You run a sport that feeds off a certain culture, and banning all signs of that to try and whiten everybody up does nothing but take icons for people from that culture, and from the same places that these players have come from, away from them and just make them like everyone else ...
I agree. And when I said "republican," I meant that its all rich white men who go to the games to have black players entertain them while keeping them on a leash with fouls. The most revered players are always the sellout guys in the suits, kind of like Donovan McNabb.

The dress code being as strick as it is , is stupid. Just becuase you put someone in a suit dosnt mean thier a good guy. Maybe suits look good to stern? but I'm sure alot of the players rather wear whatever. Its stupid to force people to wear clothes that YOU(stern) like. The NBA has always been about personall style and this is just stupid.

Theres NOTHING greater then a Florida Gator!

Iverson won't adhere to the dress code and he will just be fined for it every game. "What's 10 grand to..." him.
Probably like 1/8th of his game check. That ends up being a lot of money.

If he makes 7 mill a year.

    86 games?

that is like 81,000 dollars per game check.

That is about 1/8 of a game check. Then take the taxes away from that 81,000 and that makes the fine even larger.

It is a lot of money. If it warrants a suspension, then you don't get a game check. They will all have to adhere to it.

If you sign on at a new job, and they have a dress code, you adhere or you won't have a job. I have no sympathy for these guys and it doesn't have nothing to do with race IMO. They have an employer, the employer say this, you do it. Let them and all others up and coming stars adhere to the image that the employer wants to bring across.

Coaches use to make players where certain dress. Egos got out of control and now everyone gets to be an individual. Oh, coach Shmoe, let Iverson play, don't make him follow your dress code, we pay him more than you, so in a round about way, he doesn't have to listen to you.

This goes back to the Boat thing to. Athletes have been getting away with more and more. They get use to not having to follow anyones rules. This is a non-issue. Shut up and get yourself a suit!

Let them all go out and try to make the kind of money they are making in this league somewhere else. I don't think they can.

The NBA is one of the best ran in a marketing sense in all of sports.

If they say something, it is for the good of the NBA as a whole making money. I would just shut up and listen to them. If they say wear a skirt and high heels, then wear them. As a player, you are only going to benefit in the long run.

It is a job that pays a lot of money and if you cannot dress appropriately for your job, you get fired!!!! So maybe they should start their own league, where no one cares, I mean geez, if my boss told me to wear a kangaroo suit to work, I would either do it, or I would quit. So because they are black that means the NBA is trying to take away there culture, well not all black people wear nylons on their heads!

I think as a fan I would like to have players looking professional, this is NOT a race issue!!! Everything that happens in America or Canada for that matter that is considered racism by some faction of the population, I mean guys, these guys get paid like kings, they should dress to the standards set up by their bosses!!

What about hockey players, they wear suits, is the NHL being racist?????????????????????????????????

I am glad Duncan has finally spoken on something, but he is wrong, he is just unhappy. I didn't even know the guy could talk.

No, but they are not required to wear suits and they are almost all white and do not come from a culture where wearing jewelry, baggy clothes and throwback jerseys is a sign of status ... they wear suits as a sign of status.
