Throwing in the towel and getting engaged
Hey all, anyone know a good place to buy an engagement ring? Looking for a solitaire, round diamond ring in the .75 - 1 ct range. Having a heck of a time finding a nice ring!

Ten years ago I found a wonderful, simple solitare 1.25ct at Ken K. Thompson in Bemidji.
You could always go to a custom jeweler and have one made to order.

Don't skimp on the color and clearity.
It can be an ugly thing when she and another girl put the rings together comparing them and it looks yellow compared to a snazzy clear diamond.
Have the salesperson educate you. If they blow it off, then find someone that will.

Try Carson's in Nisswa, MN (just north of Brainerd). I got a very nice .75 for about half the price of other places. My buddy just got a sweet rock for his girl there, 1.10Kt perfectly clear, no flaws for like $6000. That is a great deal for that type of Rock.

Thanks Lotza!

Re: Throwing in the towel and getting engaged
First of all... Congratulations! I just got married in October. Your buddies will give you hell, but thats their job. The important thing about buying a ring is to shop around. I spent a about a month on the web, then a whole day hitting different stores.
Everyplace you go, find their best deal, then have the salesperson write down all of the details on their business card (carrett, clarity, color, and price). You can use these cards as leverage at other jewlers... This guy offered me this, what can you do??? Then go back to the one you really like and tell them how much you like it, but this other guy offered such a better deal...
Finally, you may pay a little more, but go for a stone that has been certified by the AGS. They laser engrave a serial # and certify the quality. They even give you a little diagram where the imperfections are and an appraisal.
Have fun... when are you planning to pop the question???

First, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Couldn't have said the ring stuff better! Do the research! As a woman, I can tell you that women know if you put effort into the right ring!
But I might add this...You also may want to look for a setting that is different, my ring has hearts on each side of the stone. Plain is boring for some, great for others. Have you got any idea what she likes?
You also could pop the question first, using a token gift (such as a locket), and let her pick the ring! She will love the fact you want her input into her own ring! Discuss your limits on price etc. with her, it will show her how mature you are, among other things.
Again congratulations! Have many years of happiness![move]"Our day WILL come!! I just hope I LIVE long enough to see it!"[/move]

Congratz man!
I don't live there so I can't help you sounds like there is some sound advice in here though. All I know about rings is I am lucky I married an artist because she wanted a saphire. It still cost a pretty penny for it, but nothing near a diamond, and she wanted something different.

My sister works here, I could have her help you if you want...
She isn't just a salesperson either, she is up there believe me...
She could probably find you the best for your bucks..
I could introduce you to her if you would like...

PS; Wishing you both a great future and long life together..
We want to see a pic of you giving the ring buddy.....
