Threads being locked today with no explanation

I see two different threads that were locked today with no explanation.

The first was the video that Mars posted.
I can see why that thread was locked, because it was on the road to getting outta hand.

But the other thread, on the marijuana study, I don't see any reason that was locked.

And since no explanation was posted by the Mod who did it - I have no idea why these were locked.

I am in total agreement with locking threads that are careening out-of-control.
But I could NOT disagree more with locking with no explanation.
That smacks of censorship and is the kind of junk I would expect if we lived in China, not the USA.

It's an honest question.
I, just as you, Marrdro, Ned, and every other member of this site is a stake-holder in its success.
Part of the good feelings I have for PPO are based upon the good job that the mods do in keeping the discussion civil w/out being heavy-handed.

That's why this bothered me this morning - because it is so out-of-character with the normal goings-on on this place.

I didn't lock the
marijuana thread, but I was close to it last night. I decided to let it go since it hadn't gotten out of hand, but I don't think it was unwarranted to lock it.

We've had a bunch of threads that were very similar to that. They have all turned into debates over whether or not it's bad for you, or impairs your judgment, etc etc. etc. and they've all gotten a little to political/personal/controversial to keep around.

Just my opinion though.

I'm guessing based on past marijuana threads, they were just nipping it in the bud before it got out of hand & verbal attacks were posted. With as many tokers as we have on this site trying to rationalize & justify their illegal behavior, that's where the majority of these threads end up.

And you know what, LTrey - if it had been locked with that bit of explanation, I don't think it would bother me nearly as much (although my personal opinion is that (even though the thread had started to re-hash old arguments) it was not yet "lockable").

But locking with NO elaboration is where I start to get antsy.
