I fly a lot and there is nothing worse than that. They think it is there right to put up the arm rest so that there body can take up some of your seat.

Totally agree.
It's sad if you're extremely overweight, but those seats are uncomfortable enough without having someone spilling over into your seat, sweating on you, and making your life miserable.
All a flight is is a glorified bus ride anyway, pay the price.
I even was burnt on a first class overseas flight with some fatass sitting next to me and still spilling over into my seat.
The guy in front of me had a brazilian supermodel sitting next to him.

You are talking about 1250 miles/2000 km, so you would be looking at minimum of $500(US) in gas round trip, plus two extra nights of hotel for the trip.
That seems a bit pricey in terms of money and time to me.
But you would also be looking at twice that for airfare.

Greyhound or Amtrak might be good ideas - If you could drive down to Syracuse, Amtrak into Minneapolis is only about $700 for both of you.
Greyhound would run about $324 for both of you.

I would try looking up trains. greyhound, or even driving.
