Yes, that terrier is a hero. Bless your heart, George.
But pit bulls are not "good for nothing." Their owners that train them to be attack dogs are good for nothing. In actuality, any dog can be trained to be a mean, violent bastard. And the truth is that pit bulls, if brought up well, are some of the sweetest, cuddliest dogs around (I should know; I have two pit bull mixes). The problem is paranoid douchebags that buy pitbulls and train them to be attack dogs. floop them, not the dogs.
The one in my avatar is a pit/German Shepherd mix. Not exactly what most people would consider a friendly mix. But the fact is he's extremely friendly, almost to a fault, and amazing with kids.
My dogs aside, I have had numerous friends and acquaintences with pure-bred pitbulls as well. The ones who raised the pits kindly, in a good environment, had friendly, outgoing, and very sweet pitbulls. The one person I knew who trained his pitbull to be an attack dog scared the pooh out of me because it was a mean bastard.
If there are any dogs that are inherently aggressive (and I don't think there is, necessarily), it would be Dobermans, simply because they're so dumb.
The damage that MOST of them can do (because of the way that they are trained) works against even owning them.
Give me a Lab any day...they are great with kids and around people...but will get protective if they HAVE to.
My wife had to fight off two pits that ran out of a neighbor's house to attack our Lab while they were out walking...luckily others helped restrain the dogs or she could have been seriously hurt.BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Bottom line: Any dog with the lock jaw style mouth is dangerous. I agree, that most of the time its the owners fault, but I have heard way too many stories of a good Pit gone bad. Eventually they may be outlawed in the states.

Re: Terrier Dies Protecting Kids From Pit Bulls
Ummm just an FYI I have had pitbulls the last 10 years of my life.
Take into account that there is a million pitbulls in the US, and when one attacks it's posted all over the news to strike fear into peeps.
Sorry but it's false to accuse the breed.
It's the deed of the owners.
I do recommend only having one pitbull if you opt to be a pitbull owner, but none the less just treat them well and they will be your best friend just like any dog and will NOT attack others besides once in a blue moon just as any breed.
I will say that I do beleive there should be rules and regulations for owning the breed, this allows responsible owners like myself not to be frowned upon and worthless no good, dead beat thugs will be limited access to owning these types of dogs.
It makes me sick to read articles like this one, because all I can think is where is the owner?
Why would the owner allow the dogs to be loose?
I NEVER walk my dog without a leash, and muzzle.
Not because it's needed for my dog, but because it makes others more comfortable in my neigbor hood.
It's the responsibility of the owners to do things to make stupid incidents like this not occur and also to make others in the communitys to understand that they are NOT ALL BAD.

Labs are responsible for my human bites/attacks then pitbulls my friend. All that may be true...BUT pit bulls are still dangerous...pr ecisely because they are mainly bred as fighting dogs.
The damage that MOST of them can do (because of the way that they are trained) works against even owning them.

You just don't hear about it on the news.
Go do some research and come back with an argument about lab over pitbull.
My family owns a lab and I also love them, but to say they are more safe from biting somebody is false.

They may not be all bad, but, the fact remains that they were bred to fight.
You could go up to my 85 lb lab and kick it in the head and it would come and lick you after you did it.
Some breeds, like pitbulls, are asking for trouble.
Fuck pit bulls.Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

Yeah right! I have a doberman and I've trained it to sit, laydown, bark, be quiet, sick someone, or just growl and look mean. When I tell it to stay, it stays no matter what.
