It's interesting how something socially constructed can have a psychosomatic impact.
I'm curious to how the experiment was constructed, they must have gotten a control reading(unless they just used two groups and averaged it, but they mention individuals later on in the article.)
If they were to do step by step:
-Submerge while swearing
-Submerge while not swearing
Instead of the other way around, I wonder if results would stay the same. I think that the second exposure to the cold water is what caused the increased tolerance, they were less shocked, more prepared for the cold.
