SW Airlines Coming to Twin Cities

The low-fare airline will begin flights to Chicago's Midway Airport in March.

Southwest Airlines is coming to the Twin Cities, elbowing its way onto Northwest Airlines'
turf just as Northwest merges with Delta Air Lines.

Southwest, a low-fare airline based in Dallas, plans to begin service in March between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Chicago's Midway Airport, Chief Executive Gary Kelly said Wednesday.

A news release issued by the airline this afternoon did not say how many flights would serve the Twin Cities. More details would be announced later, the airline said.

Re: SW Airlines Coming to Twin Cities

Anyone who has ever been on a Southwest flight knows that this is a bad thing.
SW offers the lowest cost... at the shittiest service and flights.
People who don't fly very often flock to them, which forces overall prices down, making other airlines sacrifice their service and flight quality just to be able to compete.

SW is the Walmart of the airline industry.

I don't much care. I'd rather pay $78 and sit on a toilet seat than several hundred for still crappy service on another airline.
And yes, I do shop at Walmart A LOT!

Well, that's good, because that is about as good as their service gets.
Not me.
You get what you pay for.
The service at Northwest is 100X better than SW.
Even United is better.
It is the equivalent of traveling cross country in a bus or a cattle truck.
You don't appreciate the bus until you've been on the cattle truck a few times.

Whatever happened to providing and demanding service?
We allow companies to treat the general consumer like shit and still succeed.
I don't get it.

Let's see, extra for the first bag. Even more for the second bag. Charges extra for most everything. Yup, that NW! And who's treating who like pooh?
Oh ya, and who has the best on-time schedule?

Re: SW Airlines Coming to Twin Cities

For me that is fantastic.
I HATE the drive between chicago and minnesota, and in the past have been able to get super low fares on NW, but they've jacked them way up in the past year, and now they're more along the lines of $400 per ticket.
For an hour long flight I'd gladly take SW.
Now for longer flights to say... Vegas or anywhere on the west coast.
I'd only take American.
