Yes, he deserves life in prison.

The death penalty should be outlawed because it is a direct human rights violation. In countries all over the world (and in the US) completely innocent people have been sentenced to death and have paid the price for crimes they haven't committed. Every 100 guilty people who are sentenced to death are not worth the 1 innocent person who's sentenced to death. If an innocent person is found to be innocent while in jail, that person then still has the opportunity to be released.

Just my 2 cents. It looks like this guy definitely deserves spending the rest of his life rotting away in a jail cell in mexico though.
What about the ones who confess, or the ones where there is indisputable proof?
Pretty sure there was no question who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, since Ruby shot him on national TV...
There are many murders that happen on camera, for example.
If your only concern is that there may be innocent people put to death, then there should be no problem with undeniably guilty people...

No, but its hard to put a law into place that says "only people who are undeniably guilty get the death penalty" or "only people who plead guilty get the death penalty." When you start doing that, no one pleads guilty any more. I understand the grief it puts on families and friends to know that that person is still alive and I hope I never know what it feels like to be them but until we find a way to give "all undeniably guilty people the death penalty" it should be banned IMO.

    If it's
barbaric for a government to execute it's citizens for murdering someone.

Then it is surely barbaric, for a government, to ask it's citizens to murder those from another government in a time of war.

Or maybe governance by it's very nature is barbaric and repressive!

    Tough issues with tough answers.

Those answers will come with greater clarity if you or your family have to face them directly!

I think they should employ him as a suicide bomber in Iraq.
    Strap him full of bombs.
Have a long range remote dentonater.
Have him walk in amongst the enemy and press the button.
You just have to make sure that he does not have the ability to detonate the bomb.
Have some Forward observers with the detonater, and if he decides to run detonate anyway.
