Speeding biker earns spot on 'Wall'

REESE, Mich. - A motorcyclist arrested whizzing through town at 137 mph told police he was just trying to be punctual, authorities said Tuesday.

The 37-year-old claimed he was "late for work."

A police officer stopped the biker at 3:35 a.m. about 80 miles northwest of Detroit. Authorities said the man had earned a spot on their bulletin board.

"We have a `Wall of Fame' here in the report room, and when anybody arrests someone traveling over 100 mph, we mark it down," Tuscola County Sheriff's Lt. James Giroux said.

"This 137 mph is the new record," he added.

The man was in the county jail Tuesday awaiting arraignment on a charge of fleeing and eluding police.

That is really moving ... I wonder how they were able to pull him over. By the time they pull out and get their lights going he would be long gone. He must have known he was caught and just pulled over. At least he did not get in a high-speed chase and endanger more people.

WARNING DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME (my disclaimer)

When I was young and stupid (as opposed to being middle aged and stupid as I am now), I once passed a state trooper going in the opposite direction doing about that same speed on my buddies Ninja.
And I didnt even get so much as a brake light out of the guy.
I imagine that he did a quick calculation of the combined difference between our relative speeds and considered that it was probably over 200mph and wasnt worth the effort it would take by the time he got slowed down, turned around, and back up to speed I would have been so far gone.

Needless to say once I saw he wasnt turning around I slowed down further down the road and took the next turn I could make and took some back roads going home.

Agian I dont reccomend this, but
I always found it kind of interesting.
Not sure he had his radar on, but I am sure he had a pretty good sense of how fast I went past him.

We were coming back from the beach going up a hill and we seen some bikes coming on us fast. My buddy started going faster and faster to get an idea of how fast they were going. He got up to 160 Km and they passed us in the opposite flow of traffic.
Blew by us like we were standing still Well over 250 Km. Up hill, into traffic. With no idea of what's ahead. Idiots.

On the Interstate in my car I once had a similar experience. I have a 1999 Firebird and like to let her "out to play" occasionally. About 2 years ago around 3 in the morning I was going about 120 and saw a Trooper going the other way .. he actually cut his lights on an hit his brakes ... but then flipped them back off and kept going ... I slowed way down and hit the exit and crawled back home. It is tough for them to get turned around at that time of night and he does not have my make or model or plates more than likely so even a call might not do him much good.

I was driving a pacer once and flew by a cop doing 45 in a 30.
For some reason he pursued me and gave me a ticket.
