That's true and most of these cases I looked at were W/O the possibility. Usually lately anyway if the options are life or death sentence it is Life W/O parole. I did see a few that were, two sentences of 15-life, so I think your probably right when talking about the life sentence deal.

I am not usre about eastern block and Asian Armies.
I do not have faith in China, Russia, and North Korea that they are policing their forces unless it benefits the state!

That's sort of what I mean by developed countries, but you are right that there are some developed countries out there (China, Russia) that I am not sure about. While they do have a much worse human rights record than most western nations, I don't believe that something like what this soldier did would be tolerated. On the other hand, some of the other things the US has been in trouble for such as torture techniques, would cause much controversy in those countries, if anybody even found out about it.

Instaed of prison he should be shot.
