I think Philly was the capital during the Revolution, and they switched it to New York when Washington got elected. I know the constitutional convention was held in Philly, I just remember something about New York being our capital at a time. It moved to Washington under Adams, so the only pres who could have served in NY is Washington.

I think that is correct...Washington was sworn in at the Federal Building in New York...the initial Inaugural Parade was the procession to the swearing in location.

A little side fact: in 1798, he distilled 11,000 gallons of whiskey on his Mount Vernon property, making him the largest distributor of alcohol in the US at that time...
