A Sad Day in Twins Territory...
Herb Carneal, Twins radio voice for 45 years, since 1962, passed away at home this morning of congestive heart failure. He was 83. I am really bummed - we have lost a great one...
So Long, Herb...

Re: A Sad Day in Twins Territory...
That sucks, I would listen to Herb and John every night until we got FSN here in the boonies.
RIP Mr. Carneal

Re: A Sad Day in Twins Territory...
I was so happy for him that he got to see the Twins win 2 World Series, and that he got to make it in the Hall of Fame.

Re: A Sad Day in Twins Territory...
This is a sad day.
The guy was class all the way and lived a great life.
He was really slipping in the booth the last couple of years but they did a good job of mixing him in and out of the game with Gordon and Gladden.
I'm glad he finished his career with dignity.
I was talking to my dad last week about how fun this opening day will be with all the Twins have to celebrate from last year as well as look forward to this season.
We talked about how it will be nice to celebrate the team instead of mourn the loss of a member of the Twins family like Casey two years ago and Puckett last year.
I hope they can find a nice way to have a tribute for Herb and honor his life without taking away from the happy and great time opening day is supposed to be about.
Obviously, the loss of a great man who has been with the team since the beginning should be the first thing recognized but I hope it doesn't take away from honoring Hunter, Morneau, Santana, and Mauer for their awards from last season.
I'm not trying to sound insensitive and understand it might- that is not my intention.
I understand this is a great loss.
RIP Herb

No, I agree 100% with what you said - Opening Day should be a time to look ahead to the fun of the season, but at the same time, how fitting he pass before opening day - him not being able to open the season and all. I'll miss growing up listening to him on those warm summer nights, with the crickets chirping and hearing Herb announce another victory. This is a sad day.

R.I.P. Herb! It just won't be the same without him giving play by play.

Wow, sometimes you think these people forged into your memory will always be there.
His
voice was captivating.
I am glad I got to experience his work.

Another tough loss for the Twins to follow, and again, it's right before the season starts. Twins radio will NEVER be the same.
