    The Ryder Cup 2006

The 2006 Ryder Cup gets underway on Friday at the K Club in Ireland with Europe looking to threepeat. Europe has won 4 out of the last 5 contests despite it's golfers having little success in golf's major tournaments (usually because of Tiger). Europe will start as slight favourites mainly because of the 4 rookies in the U.S team and the advantage of playing at "home".

There are concerns about the weather at the moment with heavy storms causing problems......http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/golf/5362498.stm

Hopefully the start will not be delayed, and all that's left to say is may the best team (Europe) win
    ;D

The weather could be a serious leveller, especially on Friday. This is going to be a close contest again I think

The morning fourballs just ended Europe 2½-1½ USA

Now the afternoon foursomes are starting with the following line-ups:

    Harrington/McGinley - Johnson/Campbell

    Donald/Garcia - Woods/Furyk

    Howell/Stenson - Cink/Toms

    Montgomery/Westwood - Mickelson/DiMarco

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

It's funny that the only fourball match America won was Woods and Furyk because Woods was playing as badly as I have seen in a long time. The fact that Montgomerie and Harrington couldn't hole any putts was their downfall, as well as the steady play of Furyk.

It's still the first day, so the players will get better over the weekend.

Still I was impressed by the play of Garcia. I'll enjoy the matchup with Woods.

    5-3 to Europe.

Now Tiger regains his poor Ryder Cup form!

Usually the Europeans should be ahead before the singles on sunday. So it has been an adequate day to start of the event.

Tiger has - as you say - never been truely impressive in Ryder Cup. I don't think he values it as much as majors. His record before this years match were 7-11-2

I allways enjoy watching David Toms though. He is great for the US

Speaking for the Europeans Monty played poorly today, I hope he can get better. Garcia played really magnificient today, and McGinley were surprisingly good. Especially on the green.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

Garcia will choke when the pressure is on.
    You can count on that.
