Yeah, I'm in the path too, but around 150-200 miles inland. Looks like Houston is going to get the 'dirty side' of the hurricane. It's a little freaky, but everyone here seems to have learned from Katrina and is taking this seriously.
Bryan is a great town. We always stop there if we road trip that way..
It has a real hometown feel to it
Too bad most people just remember it for that F5 tornado.
I've just been here for 16 months and I'm leaving in two weeks. I really like downtown Bryan. There is this old fashion soda fountain/coffee shop in the middle of an antique store. I'd definitely recommend it. The folks here are incredibly nice, but I miss trees. The trees around Bryan (the few that they are) are cool looking...knarled, old oaks that look like they've been through one too many Texas summers, but after three years in North Carolina...it was a little shock on the system.

    Thanks guys.
But I worry more about other PPO members that live in Houston.
If you members read this, you are welcome to stay with me and my family. I live farther north and it should be somewhat better.
Do not hesitate, sure it will be cramped but we will manage.
    Just PM me.

I also have family in Lufkin Tx.
How about me in Galveston? I think we are going to get the dirty edge.

    Where are you at 6-Kings?

Spent all day yesterday getting ready for this. I am packing up my computer right after this post and heading to OK.

Category 4 will probably take my house.

Looks like Hurricane Rita is headed straight towards me.
It should be in my town Sat night through Sunday Morning.
Sustained winds of 55-73 MPH Gust of 90 MPH possible.
    Ain't that great?

    hope this link works

    6-KINGS

If those are the actual estimates of when it will hit you (55-73mph and gust 90mph) .... that's a baby.

But it doesn't sound like those are accurate as we are all hearing Cat. 4 and now poss. Cat. 5 !! Get out though, I'm a little jaded over here ... last year during Charlie we boarded up our entire place, packed everything up ... it took us 2 full days and hundreds of $$ just to get prepaired as Tampa was to get slammed directly on. Filled tons of sandbags, etc .... Then, nothing. And the other 2 hurricanes (Frances and forget the other one, we did nothing for) as by the time they reached us they were Cat. 1 or 2 and just babies.

Again, don't take anything for granted and get that plywood, water, and sandbags early .....
