    Re: record oil profits!

This topic could be considered combustible.

There I put in my two cents worth or 1/150th of a gallon worth.

I agree. I just cannot help not responding to it.

People just need to be more aware of the things that determine our economic principles.

Just wanted to add to this.

It is funny that the car companies are advertising now to the very issue.

    Advertising Hybrids, even Hybrid SUVs(mercury)
Advertising MPG for cars with 30 plus miles per gallon (chevy)
Advertising "our SUV are best in class for MPG"(GMC)

This may be the start of something good.

I like to hear educated posts, I can learn from, not just an opinion thrown out there. Hopefully there has been some people taking something away from this thread. Hopefully all the information given is accurate and educated.

    I like graphs also.

Only because they see the Japanese big business from this.

American companies are funny. In the 70's they never thought anybody would want a smaller car like the Japanese built. Then the nergy crisis hit and a lot of people started buying the Japanese models. American companies were so far behind at that point.

The Japanese are so far ahead of us in vehicles. Ford is buying the technolgy from Toyota and within the next 10 years all Ford engines will be of Japanese technology.

It is non-politically biased material. So, it should be safe.

Lets also put into play the fact that Texas Petrochemical Resin producers were devestated by Rita.
Their silos are all empty except for one company.
They produce 47% of all resin in the world.
They are putting their bids in to fill their buisnesses again so they can get back to work.
And they will pay anything to do that.
This resin is used in just about everything built.

As for the lack of refineries we can place that blame on the shoulders of enviromentalist who have halted their building and have their voice heard in the Congress through their Congressmen.
They don't want Atomic, oil, coal or natural gas fired power plants.
In some areas they are fighting wind power!!
    What is up with that?

So many complain with no solutions to offer. Just take what is not theirs or tax until it hurts. Never comprehending the ripple effect.

And if you work at a job that does not pay inflation adjustments, who's fault is that?
I say get another job that fits your needs.
Do whatever it takes to better yourself.
Don't wait for someone else to do it for you.
    You will be sorely dissappointed.

    Re: record oil profits!

I would tend to agree with both sides if that is possible. The first point is Ultra and 6-kings are correct. We shouldn't put artificial constrants on a free market company, the supply and demand will do that for itself. '

However, having said that in a time of crisis like Katrina the government should step in when they know these companies are hurting our country for a few bucks. A temporary price freeze until the situation is under control wouldn't be a bad thing as long as it wasn't a permanent solution to rising gas prices. There are indicators that can suggest if they are gouging the consumer and these oil companies should be held accountable.

Other businesses are held accountable during times of crisis, hotels that raise rates too high are severely penalized, why not the oil comapnies who clearly did not do anything to help this country in a time of need.

In normal circumstances though I allign my thinking with Ultra and 6-kings, let the free market set the price!!

There s only two things stopping you - fear and common sense!! The Truth you CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!
