Re: Rating 5th grade basketball players

there was a soccer player in argentina who got bought by one clubs youth system to another for what i think would translate to about $160,000, whats unusual about this? the kid was something like 10 years old.

What's worse is you just know that some "never was" parent is pushing his kid way too hard so he/she can live their dream out through the child. DISGUSTING!!

This has to be one of the most disturbing things I have ever read and humanity in general just took a big decline for allowing this to continue.

What the hell is next? Merry-Go-Round as an Olympic sport? Let kids be kids!
It aint the years honey, it s the mileage..

I actually don't see much wrong with this.
Pushing a kid to succeed is quite all right with me, and if from fifth-grade you can begin molding him then I still see nothing wrong with it, AS LONG AS THE KID IS STILL A KID.
A kid can be a kid and still be extremely succesfful in molding his future, it all comes down to whether this kid has good parents or not. Good parents will not allow their kid being on of the 'top 100 5th grade basketball players' hurt the child or the parenting.

Yes, an age requirement needs to be implemented A.S.A.P. From what I've heard of late, they're getting closer to doing this. It would be a lot smoother if idiots like Jermaine O'Neal weren't going around saying that a move like that would be racist by the NBA officials.
Yeah, I want to know how an age limit is racist. Maybe discriminatory becuase supposedly you're not aloud to give age requirements for jobs, but racist? White kids don't turn 18 too? I don't get it.
I think what O'Neal is assuming is that most of the talented youngsters will be African-American...which is a racist assumption in and of itself...even if it is mainly true, he also assumes that all of these 18-year old kids will be exploited by the system if they are not allowed to turn pro and are made to attend college until they are old enough to go pro. Some players and commentators have likened the college game as a form of slavery where the players make tons of money for the colleges but work for free...the fact of the matter is this: only so many players will make it in the pros, but if too many players go into the system before they are ready, they will fail...what O'Neal fails to realize is that for every young player that comes into the game, an older player has to leave...so it is a wash (unless he thinks that young black players are being kept from replacing older white players...which is not the case). All in all, a pretty stupid comment from O'Neal...but he is young, so he may need a little more experience in the world before he can analyze things in their proper perspective.
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE
