I think you defined a faiweather fan in your post.
Heres my question, what do you consider a fairweather fan?
But with them falling apart the last couple years I have little interest.
My plans for post-college is to Move to Colorado, a place with similar climate but more temperately hospitable.
I am excited to cheer on Denver's and Colorado's teams.
If you lose interest when they are not doing well and plan to follow other teams when you move that's a fairweather fan.
I also understand that you still keep up with the teams progress when they're not doing well and still plan to follow Minnesota teams when you move so your not a textbook definition you jut have a couple symptoms of a fairweather fan.
On the plus side the Broncos future is looking bright.

A fan is a fan in his own way.
It is all cool!
Problem lies in the fact that sometime people that don't take as much interst in the details of everyday operations start talking like they do to someone that is a bit more passionate about the team or the sport.
It is all cool when people know their own comfort level.

Re: R U a Fairweather Fan?
This is the type of follow-up I was looking for with honest input.
I agree that not having as much enthusiasm for a team when they are in a rut is definitely a symptom of being a fairweather fan.
As far as the Wolves are concerned for me things changed once Flip was gone and can't get myself to care about these bunch of jokesters.
As far as moving to Colorado, I disagree.
I think it is fair for me to root for local teams, thats why I consider Minnesota teams "my team" now.
Teams represent their people.
If not, then why root for them?
Otherwise they are just corporations trying to make bucks then.
My dad doesn't watch pro sports cause thats his view.
I guess part of what I was trying to get at here was to more analyze fanship
in general and what it means.
(what the hell is a fan-ship?)
Thanks for the link Hubert.
Its never to early to get your foot in the door.

I have been a Viking fan in every one of those situations.
If you only support the team where you live then yes you are a fair weather fan.
In all of the places I have lived I developed a dislike for all of the local teams mainly because we play them and because of their homer fan base.
Teams do not represent their people they represent their fans.
:P
Good luck with your new team when you move.

Re: R U a Fairweather Fan?
Fairweather fans are not always bad.
Example: I started watching the Vikings in 1998, when my parents also started watching. I was 13, I think. I didn't care much for football but it was cool to see a Minnesota team doing well. After that year, I came in and out of watching the Vikings. Didn't care much when they were losing, had some interest when they were winning. Then, in 2003, I had heard they were 6-0 and my interest was raised. My boss offered me tickets for the Giants game (which we lost terribly). For some reason, I became a fan. It wasn't even my first Vikings game and we lost. I have no idea why, but I've been a fan, not a fairweather fan, ever since.
The difference was, when I was a fairweather fan, I didn't care much about football. Then in 2003, for some reason I started to care a lot about football, even other teams than the Vikings.

I'm a fairweather mod. Some days I am tolerant of stupid threads, other days I'm not.
The fact that this thread is still open means you caught me on a good day.
