Question about Photoshop
man, it's been a few years since i had regular access to photoshop but....
in one of drop down menus in the window there should be "add a layer"...if i remember correctly, you should be able to pick a color and select percent of transparency.
once you add a layer, you can select that layer, use the selector tool to drag across the image--a box where you want to put the purple. in your paint brush tool options--a box that appears usually when you select the paint brush tool--you can set the transparency %.
now, i don't know if that will help you cause the version i used to use was probably just version 3, maybe 4. you will find that there is a number of different ways to do the same thing.
i think there is even an effects menu which might have gloss you set the color to purple, but not sure.
anyway, wish i could help you more.

Question about Photoshop
I was going to download Photoshop 7, the full version. But, I was told that all I need is elements. I really have not had a chance to mess with it yet.
