    Question...

Ok, you know how in the NFL the when you punt the ball, all you have to do is touch the ball for it to be down. In high school football is the rule the same or do you have to pick the ball up and control it for it to be down?

I have tried looking on google but can't find anything really.

rules are the same, if ball is touched by the team punting..the ball is down at point of contact. I guess control of the ball would be an issue..ask Ned, he's an HS football ref lol

Because in our playoff game last year that we lost the team we were playing against punted the ball to us and just touched it and our returner picked it up and took it to the house and the refs blew the whistles when he was like 30 yards away from the end zone. Our coach and the returner both said that in high school you have to have control of the ball in order to down it. I wasn't sure at the time. Today I just watched the game film again and that is complete bull$hit if what my coach thinks is true because the refs lost the game for us than.
