Purple Pride in detroit?
So I'm looking to move to Detroit in Mid August to early September, and I'm wondering from some of my trusted friends here at PPO who from the site lives in the area, and would be willing to share some information on the area. Basically I'm curious to what areas are the best for renting apartments and safest to live in. Besides catching the Vikes on January 2nd, what is there to do in Detroit? Finally i've done a lot of leg work myself, and currently have about 75-100 applications pending in the Detroit area, but I'm looking for entry level jobs in computer related fields (bachelors in computer science) or education related fields that don't require a teaching liscense(currently working on getting my masters in secondary education).
Once again y'all never let me down so hopefully y'all can help this time as well

Re:Purple Pride in detroit?
First off, I want to wish you the best of luck with the move, but I have to be honest and say that Detroit is not a very good place to be lately.
I lived in Southfield as a child. Back then it was a nice, upper-middle-class suburb. Now it is a giant drug den. I may be misremembering, but I think that maybe Forest Hills might be a better area.
I lived in Toledo from 2002-6 and made regular monthly trips to Detroit to make pickups from a wood supplier there. The city is just plain depressing. It's dirty, rundown, old and tired. The introduction of casino gambling there some years back was supposed to bring more money into the local economy, but all it has done is increase the already too high crime level.
Now on the plus side, if you're willing to do a bit of driving, there is a LOT of great activity just a short ways away. Ann Arbor is a great college town, less than an hour drive. Or hop across the bridge into Canada for a day trip. Dearborn and Greenfield Village are cool places to visit.
There are a lot of fabulous hunting and fishing sites, if you are into that sort of thing, and Dunes State Park over at Lake Michigan is a fun visit about three hours west. 4-5 hours will get you to Chicago, or to Indianapolis, where I am.
I'm sure there are plenty of things to do in the city itself, but I can't really help you with that.
Again, I wish you the best of luck with this, and if there's anything else I can tell you, I'll be happy to. Just drop me a PM.

Well funny you should mention Canada, as I'll be spending a lot of time there. More or less I'm pretty flexible, as a recent graduate with a bachelors, and a masters program that I can work on anywhere online I'm kind of taking advantage. More or less I was in Jamaica over my christmas break, met a girl, hit things off. Turns out she was from Canada and what not. We've both done a little traveling over the last six months to see each other, and she just got offered a basketball scholarship in Windsor, so I figured why not go get a little closer since for back of a letter phrase, I need a change of scenery. So I know what my options are around there, but that won't be a nightly thing as that will be an hours drive from the area's i'm looking at living in lolFirst off, I want to wish you the best of luck with the move, but I have to be honest and say that Detroit is not a very good place to be lately.
