Prince moves to sue fan Web sites
Prince moves to sue fan Web sites

LONDON (Reuters) - Fan sites dedicated to Prince say they have been served legal notice to remove all images of the singer, his lyrics and "anything linked to Prince's likeness," and have vowed to fight what they said was censorship.
The move was a shock to many of his followers and came two months after Prince threatened to sue YouTube and other major Internet sites for unauthorized use of his music and image.
But by targeting fan sites directly, Prince risks a backlash, and the sites have vowed to unite under the banner "Prince Fans United" and take the matter to court if necessary...Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

Prince is such an asshole, there is NOTHING about him that is even remotely good. How his pansy ass got to play at the super bowl baffles me

A Pennsylvania woman, with the help of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), is taking Prince to court over his alleged involvement in a DMCA takedown request earlier this year. Although Stephanie Lenz was successful in getting the video restored to YouTube, EFF staff attorney Corinne McSherry said the purpose of the suit is "To keep them from abusing [the DMCA].".....

What goes around, comes around. I hope this woman wins her lawsuit. Prince took it way to far in this case & is just being a dickhead, IMO.According to company sources, Prince was very involved with the original takedown notice. They say he personally contacted UMG to have them file the notice. Prince has also recently hired a firm to police the internet for anything that infringes on his intellectual property.
Now I know SIA is a big Prince fan & might take exception to that, but I would hope he would see that the Rock star took it to far regarding this particular video that he personally got involved in.
I can understand Prince suing some websites to remove some of his music & videos that have been illegally used & his intellectual property rights violated, but there is some point when it has gone too far. This womans video of her 18 month old dancing to his barely audible music is one of them.
Hopefully, the NFL doesn't consider using Prince again in anymore of their Superbowl half-time shows.

Prince must have good ears, because I couldn't even tell what that was.

This is very sad. I lost all respect for him. This guy has enough money and now he wants to sue some middle class woman for making a video of her son because his musis was in the background. I am no lawyer but I do not think he will win. She is not making any money off this video.

Apparently he doesn't know for sure WHO he wants to offend most.Prince also gave his "Planet Earth" album away free with a British Sunday newspaper earlier this year, infuriating music retailers but winning plaudits from fans for innovation.

Personally, I don't think there is intelligent life on other planets. Why should other planets be any different from this one?
