Power: Gore Mansion uses 20x averagehold; consumption increase after "Truth"
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,†said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.Kentucky Vikes Fan

Beating up on Gore is like beating up on a blind, deaf and mute midget.

I hold a Bachelors in Biology, and a Bachelors in Environmental Science. To dispute the fact that we are having a profound impact on the earth is crazy.
Did you see the film??
I will rant no further........ if someone thinks global warming is speculation then this goes no where.

However, I give Gore 0 credibility, which has nothing to do with my understanding of global warming and the issues surrounding it.Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

Seems to me that Gore said in his film that sea levels would rise 20 some feet while all the scientists said in their recently released report about 3-4 feet. That alone shoots Gore crediability.
But we are not arguing global warming. Just the fact that Gore is such a hypocrate.Kentucky Vikes Fan

Re: Power: Gore Mansion uses 20x averagehold; consumption increase after "Truth"
It shouldn't matter if gore is hypocritical or not. The fact of the matter is that Global warming is happening and the polluting of the environment may have worse effects that we don't even know about as of now. These right wing radio hosts and thinktanks are just being ignorant when the ignore the blatant facts that point to global warming. Just because gore uses 20 times more than everyone else doesn't mean that he's wrong or anyone arguing for global warming is for that matter.
But but.. ITS COLD OUT. THAT MUST MEAN IT DOESN'T EXIST. THOSE GUYS WITH BIG IQ'S R DUM.

How do you know he's a hypocrite?
Do you know what measures have been taken at his home to use less energy at his home, if any?
Or do you just choose to take the slant of this particular article and react exactly how the author wanted you to react?
Half the houses in America use more energy than the average.
And half use less - that's why it's an average.
Al Gore and his family are wealthy, so they live in a large home - OF COURSE it uses more energy.
Non story.
Move along everyone.
