Scientists decide Pluto’s no longer a planet

This lineup shows the 12 planets that were proposed last week, with a wedge of the sun at far left. Ceres, Pluto, Charon and 2003 UB313 are barely visible. Now Charon will continue to be considered Pluto's satellite, and the three other worlds will be dubbed "dwarf planets" rather than full-fledged planets. The planets are drawn to scale, but without correct relative distances.

Capping years of intense debate, astronomers resolved Thursday to demote Pluto in a wholesale redefinition of planethood that is being billed as a victory of scientific reasoning over historic and cultural influences. But the decision is already being hotly debated.

Officially, Pluto is no longer a planet.

"Pluto is dead," said Mike Brown, a planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology who spoke with reporters via a teleconference while monitoring the vote. The decision also means a Pluto-sized object that Brown discovered will not be called a planet....

yeah this is awesome, 2 days ago some guys i work with were talking to me about how they planned on adding 3 more "planets" to the solar system, they thought it was awesome while i argued it was the dumbest thing they could possibly do, considering we'd just continue to find objects the same size or larger then pluto, and constantly reformat our solar system

i agrued w/ them that those 3 shouldnt be considered planets, and i said neither is pluto, they made fun of me and argued w/ me for a while, then now, 2 days later, they strip that damn dog of its planetary status

It makes sense, but then again it all depends on how you choose to define "planet."

I heard they are voting to determine if the packers are still considered a football team.
The debate is raging.
The "pro" side points to the fact that the number of teams in the divisions wouldn't be even.
Others argue that they just plain suck too much to be considered a football team, and should be considered a dwarf football team, if anything, because of the lack of tallent.

I personally necer liked Pluto.....Uranus is much better! :-)

Its going to cause problems for the astrologers ... however are they going to work all the planetary movements now
