    Omega b anyone:

The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab, Batavia, Ill.) one-upped the European Council for Nuclear Research's CERN's Large Hadron Collider by announcing the observation of the Omega b baryon, a cousin of the proton. By colliding protons with anti-protons, Fermilab became the first to observe the particle. But its discovery may yet be confirmed by CERN next spring when CERN ramps up its larger particle accelerator.

One of my friends from college is a lab tech on the accelerator at Fermi.
I've toured the place (back in my college days). Its pretty cool stuff they do.
You might want to warn your buddy, that the guys working in that place don't seem to come out for years.
The guys I saw had long grey beards and raggy flannel shirts.
    But it was the 80's.
That trip had me change directions with my curriculum.
Went from pure physics degree to a mix of physics, ee and computer science.
It was very interesting, just not cut out for it.
The last time I talked to him, I think they were talking about using the accelerator to cook their thankgiving turkey. They're weird there.
If it can cook a turkey then my idea (use it to cool a case of the beast down) is out of the question.
    :'( :'( :'(
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

I'm sure they good give you a squirt from their liquid helium to cool it down, just keep your digits out of the way.

One of your favorite physicists? You mean you have multiples? Duuude.

Here is a neat interpertation of what is happening in the LHC.
CAUTION, contains educational material and you might accidentally learn something. ;D

Well, some physicists are saying that by turning on this machine, it could create a black hole and devour the Earth...

However, they say the chances of that happening are like, "Winning the lottery three weeks in a row."

    I find this stuff fascinating.
well we are still here so i guess no black hole devouring earth stuff happening?

I heard on KFAN that the glitch was being blamed on Bevell and Childress.
