Oregon fishing spot drains on opening day

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. - Opening day was drained out at a popular Southern Oregon fishing spot. Angler Doug Evans took his family to a pond in the Denman Wildlife Area at noon Saturday. The water level quickly seemed to dip and then it dipped some more.

    It wasn't his imagination.

By 4 p.m., the pond was dry, transformed into a mudhole populated with dying carp, catfish and blue gill.

"I've been fishing here since I was 15 years old," Evans said as he looked at a large carp flopping on the soggy ground. "This is terrible."......

I hope that doesn't happen to my local fishing hole.

    Facts About the Chesapeake Bay
Watershed encompasses 200 counties in 6 states and D.C.
Area of watershed is 64,299 square miles, excluding Chesapeake Bay and its major tributaries. The area of the bay and tributaries is 4,479 square miles.
Has 150 major rivers and streams in its drainage basin
Home to 16 million people with estimates of 18 million projected by 2020.
Home to 29 species of waterfowl. One million waterfowl spend the winter on the bay.
288 major sewage treatment plants along the Chesapeake Bay watershed. There are 124 in Pennsylvania, 62 in Maryland, 70 in Virginia, 18 in New York, 3 in Delaware, 2 in D.C. and 9 in West Virginia.
    Chesapeake Bay

Mix of fresh and salt water, holds 18 trillion gallons of water
About 189 miles long from Havre de Grace, Md. to Norfolk, Va.
11,684 miles of shoreline on the bay and its tidal tributaries
Width: 3.4 miles near Aberdeen, Md.; 35 miles near the mouth of the Potomac River.
Depth: 21 feet is average. Some parts are extremely shallow but there are areas 100+ feet deep.
2 major ports: Baltimore and Hampton Roads, Va.

Of course it would save on gas and bait.
Would still have to fill the cooler with beer.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

The water, along with hundreds of fish, disappeared through a broken dam at the northwest side of the pond. It appears the wood either became so rotten that it could no longer hold back water, or someone broke the boards sealing the culvert.
Nobody noticed the water rushing out of the broken dam?
    Dam.
