Ohio HS students suspended for hacking a snow day

Two Ohio high-school students face expulsion and criminal charges after allegedly using their access to a Web server to post a notice that the local schools had closed due to snow.

The two girls, whose names were not released, appear to have used a password on Sunday, Feb. 4, to change the Edgewood School District's notice of one-hour delay to "Edgewood Schools Closed," according to media reports. The notice caused some parents to keep their children at home and caused others to criticize the school district's apparent late-night decision to cancel classes.

"I didn't make that call, and I'm the guy who does, so I knew something was up," Tom York, superintendent of schools for Trenton, Ohio, told the Associated Press.

Well if they are hacking into the school site then I guess they are smart enough to stay home the rest of the year lol.

That's a pretty good prank. I hope they don't get expelled though. I think suspension is enough.

If they are smart enough to do that, I'd give both of them a free ride to any college they choose.

They had access to the server with the password.

"Hack" is a loose term, it says they used a password. If that make them smart, them I'm a friggen genius.

It said they used a password. Where does it say they aquired a password from someone and punched it in?

No where that I saw.

Thats just how I read the article.

I assumed that they had been given access to the server with a password for some reason or other since it said it was "THIER" access to the server.
