Re: The Official Rock/Blues Thread (no metal)
Best straight out rock and roll group ever is ZZ Top.
Then:
Allman Brothers
Steppenwolf
Rolling Stones
Springsteen and the E Street Band
Hendrix
AC/DC
Cream
Chuck Berry
Metal is not rock and roll......its metal.
Folk rock is not rock and roll...its folk rock.
Pop music is not rock and roll...its pop.
Alternative rock is not rock and roll...its alternative rock.
In short everything that has a back beat is not rock and roll.

You get the picture.

Highlighted some very good points you just made. The first bad to ever be called Emo was Sunny Day Real Estate, but I don't think their too bad (at least their first album, Diary) but all other emo can be buried at the bottom of the sea for all I care.Anyhow most rock today sucks. Emo doesn't help.
Lamb of God, BLS, and RATM are some good rock groups.
Niel Young is still the shit too.
Then there is the stuff that everybody likes that you don't have to name off.
I want to mention John McLaughlin as one of my favorite guitarists... but I think that will have to wait for the Jazz/Fusion thread... soon to come.Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

Yeah Emo is really ruining what used to be mainstream rock. Some of my favorite bands are starting to lean in the emo direction as well... That's when I start liking them less and less.

Re: The Official Rock/Blues Thread (no metal)
There are some amazingly good bands that many of you might classify as emo.
But then again, can any of you give me a definition of emo that doesn't involve a joke about girl jeans, bad haircuts, and suicide?
becuase that isn't want emo is about, just like shooting people and selling crack isn't what hip-hop and rap are about.
Lamb of God is absolutely horrible.
One of the worst metal bands out there.
Whoever said LOG should listen to Killswitch Engage, Between The Buried and Me, The Black Dhalia Murder and August Burns Red.
Some of my favorite Rock bands are...
I'll break it down, because it is alot...
Metal- August Burns Red
Hardcore- The Devil Wears Prada
Mainstream Hardcore- Rise Against
Alt Country- Wilco
Alt Punk- Circa Survive
Folk Rock- The Decemberists
Indie Rock- Silversun Pickups
Classic Rock- Jethro Tull
Heavy Metal- None, It all sucked
Emo Rock- Forgive Durden
Radio Rock- The Sick Puppies
90's Rock- Counting Crows
Pop Rock- Cute is What We Aim For
I put that together really fast... so I probably forgot alot
